This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee the monthly financial closing process, ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, journal entries, and compliance with Salvation Army policies.
• Guarantee adherence to internal policies and legal requirements; create and execute efficient processes and internal controls.
• Analyze financial statements for precision, cash flow, fund balances, and budget performance.
• Prepare and authorize journal entries, conduct account reconciliations, and address discrepancies.
• Develop audit schedules and financial statements in alignment with funding agreement stipulations.
• Supervise charity returns and government filings.
• Engage in budget preparation, assess variance reports, and formulate multi-year financial projections.
• Generate analytical reports and answer both recurring and ad hoc requests from stakeholders.
• Act as a primary contact for ministry units and external clients, resolving financial concerns and sustaining communication.
• Offer guidance to finance personnel and partners regarding accounting standards, policies, and tax regulations.
• Assist in delivering financial accounting and advisory services while executing intricate accounting tasks and process development.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.
• The Financial Analyst must be enrolled in the CPA program PEP.
• Between three to five years of relevant experience (AP/AR/GL).
• Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army’s mission, culture, and values.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and analytical skills.
• High level of integrity and confidentiality, with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
• Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, index/match, indirect, trims, left, right, mid, substitute, and IF statements with OR/AND logic.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
• Capability to assist and train individuals with limited financial backgrounds, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of reporting requirements.
• Dedication to providing quality customer service.
• Ability to proactively identify potential risks and issues, respond with solutions, and involve others in effecting change.
• Strong organizational and time management skills; self-motivated and disciplined self-starter.
