Field Troubleshooting Technician – Wind

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Provide support to the Wind operating fleet with an emphasis on in-field troubleshooting and efforts to return to service.

• Collaborate with site teams to bring turbines back into operation and train new technicians on troubleshooting methodologies.

• Travel across the US fleet to assist both owned and third-party contracted sites with advanced troubleshooting, pilot projects, de-rated turbines, and complex repairs.

• Diagnose issues and repair equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

• Assist in pilot projects that assess new equipment, tools, and processes.

• Help fulfill deliverables and contractual commitments while engaging with internal and external stakeholders.

• Create and implement operational procedures that comply with company, customer, industry, and legal standards.

• Provide support for high-voltage switching when necessary.

• Identify, document, and share opportunities for operational and quality enhancements.

• Compile and analyze data to determine proactive and reactive maintenance and repair strategies.

• Lead, assist, and collaborate with technicians on operational and contractual responsibilities.

• Conduct on-the-job training for site technicians.

• Evaluate and oversee contractor repair work to ensure equipment is returned to operational status.

• Conduct QA/QC inspections throughout the fleet and provide feedback on best practices.

• Manage personal travel arrangements effectively.

• Work on a rotational schedule of four weeks away from home, followed by one week off.


⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• At least 2 years of experience in wind turbine operations.

• Demonstrated and effective troubleshooting skills.

• Capability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

• Ability to climb ladders independently and work at heights exceeding 80 meters (250 feet).

• Capacity to lift and maneuver up to 45 kg (100 pounds).

• Weight must not surpass 120 kg (265 lbs.) excluding equipment/gear during job-related activities.

• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

• Experience with GE wind turbines is preferred.

• Familiarity with CMMS (EAM) is preferred.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

• Familiarity with GE Toolbox ST, GE Webpages, SCADA, Visu-pro, and CMS systems is preferred.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

• Must successfully pass drug testing with a negative result prior to starting work.

• This position is safety-sensitive.
