Field Troubleshooting Technician – Wind

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Provide support to the Wind operating fleet, concentrating on in-field troubleshooting and efforts to return equipment to service.

• Collaborate with site teams to restore turbines to operational status and mentor junior technicians on troubleshooting techniques.

• Travel across the US fleet to assist both company-owned and third-party contracted sites with advanced troubleshooting, pilot projects, de-rated turbines, and intricate repairs.

• Identify faults and repair equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

• Participate in pilot projects assessing new equipment, tools, and processes.

• Aid in meeting deliverables and contractual commitments while liaising with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Develop and enforce operating procedures that adhere to company, customer, industry, and regulatory standards.

• Provide support for high-voltage switching when necessary.

• Recognize, document, and communicate opportunities for operational and quality enhancements.

• Gather, compile, and analyze data for both proactive and reactive maintenance and repair tasks.

• Operate with minimal supervision while delivering technical expertise and professionalism.

• Lead, assist, and collaborate with technicians on operational and contractual responsibilities.

• Conduct on-the-job training sessions with site technicians.

• Assess and oversee contractor repair activities to ensure equipment is returned to operational status.

• Execute QA/QC inspections throughout the fleet and provide insights on best practices and areas for improvement.

• Handle personal travel arrangements efficiently.

• Follow a rotational schedule comprising four weeks of work away from home, followed by one week off.


⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• At least 2 years of experience with wind turbines.

• Demonstrated and effective troubleshooting skills.

• Capability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

• Ability to climb ladders independently and work at heights exceeding 80 meters (250 feet).

• Capacity to lift and handle weights up to 45 kg (100 pounds).

• Weight must not exceed 120 kg (265 lbs.) excluding any worn equipment or gear during work-related activities.

• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving history.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

• Willingness and ability to travel 100% for four-week periods followed by one week off.

• Preferred: Experience with GE wind turbines.

• Preferred: Familiarity with CMMS (EAM).

• Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

• Experienced with GE Toolbox ST, GE Webpages, SCADA, Visu-pro, and CMS systems.

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• This is a safety-sensitive position requiring drug testing with a negative result prior to commencing work.
