Field Service Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Address the service requirements of BD Advanced Diagnostics clients within the designated geographic area and nationally as required.

• Quickly respond to customer requests.

• Carry out installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs utilizing electronic and computer skills, tools, testing equipment, and schematic diagrams.

• Service BD COR, KiestrA, Microbiology, Molecular, and LC/MS laboratory systems.

• Work collaboratively with service and support teams to enhance field service revenue through billable services such as preventive maintenance and equipment relocations.

• Manage customer expectations by informing them of the work completed and providing follow-up plans when necessary.

• Work with customers to proactively arrange and finalize system upgrades.

• Document and report customer complaints in relevant systems for resolution and investigation.

• Manage spare parts inventory, company-issued vehicle, laptop, tools, testing devices, and other assigned equipment.

• Use the company credit card responsibly and adhere to established expense policies.

• Conduct both scheduled and unscheduled visits, including overnight stays for extensive territories and occasional national travel.

• Participate in weekend/holiday on-call rotation approximately every six weeks, with local phone availability and potential national travel for instrument support.

• Maintain a professional appearance at all times.

• Operate remotely without direct supervision.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronic Technology, Computer Science, Biomedical, or other related fields OR 10+ years of relevant experience in troubleshooting and/or repairing complex electro-mechanical, electronic, computer, or electrical systems in commercial, industrial, or military environments required.

• Knowledge of electronics, electro-mechanical devices (Mechatronics), PLCs, and pneumatics.

• Intermediate understanding of information systems networking architecture design and setup.

• Intermediate comprehension of computer software operating systems.

• Ability to communicate effectively with the customer’s IT personnel and lab management to schedule and complete routine software upgrades and maintenance.

• Must hold a valid driver's license with a minimum of 3 years of driving history.

• Must be available for flexible working hours.

• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time outside the home geographic area.

• Must be on call as needed to fulfill business requirements.

• Capable of lifting up to 30 lbs frequently and 70 lbs infrequently, and able to stand/bend/stoop for up to 10 hours, push/pull materials up to 100 lbs, while adhering to all company Personal Protective Equipment standards and guidelines.

• Must engage in vendor credentialing processes and complete vendor credentialing requirements to gain and maintain access to customer facilities.

• Must possess a Real ID.

• Expertise in Robotics is preferred.

• Experience with Liquid Chromatography (LC) and Mass Spec (MS) instrumentation is preferred.

• Familiarity with Lab Information Systems (LIS) and database management is preferred.

• A+, Microsoft, or Cisco certifications are advantageous.

• Understanding of basic computer security concepts and standard procedures.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

• Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.

• Must maintain a valid state-issued driver's license with a minimum of 3 years of driving history and comply with BD's auto safety standards.

• Ability to lift 30 to 40 lb. objects from floor to chest level.

• Capability to use manual sockets, crescent wrenches, and screwdrivers repeatedly over an 8-to-10-hour workday.

• Ability to sit, kneel, squat, bend, and stand repeatedly during an 8–10-hour period to assemble and repair instrument suites.

• Ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 70 lbs.

• Ability to perform fine motor tasks while reaching throughout the duration of an 8–10-hour workday.

• Ability to carry a 30 lb. backpack for up to 1 hour.

• Ability to drive for distances up to 6 hours and in adverse weather conditions.

• Must be able to climb portable ladders and step stools.

• May be required to wear a respirator while servicing equipment; must pass a fit test and annual spirometry.
