Field Service Engineer, Electron Microscopy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +6 more states.

📋 Description

• Install, maintain, repair, and calibrate electron microscopy systems, which include SEM, TEM, and FIB systems.

• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.

• Troubleshoot and diagnose intricate issues related to electronics, vacuum systems, high-voltage components, and integrated software.

• Provide technical support to customers and work in collaboration with field service engineers.

• Develop customer relationships while ensuring satisfaction and system uptime.

• Travel to customer locations for equipment installations, repairs, and operational support.

• Document service activities and submit comprehensive field service reports.

• Train and offer technical guidance to customers.

• Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards in laboratory settings.

• Offer feedback to engineering, product quality, and service leadership teams for ongoing product enhancement.

• Assist in updating technical documentation and service procedures.

• Depending on the level, mentor junior engineers, lead complex installations, and act as a technical escalation resource.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience in electronic systems.

• Field Service Engineer I: A minimum of 1 year of practical technical experience in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating sophisticated analytical equipment like SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems.

• Field Service Engineer II: At least 3 years of hands-on experience in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating complex analytical instrumentation.

• Field Service Engineer III: A minimum of 5 years of experience supporting advanced analytical systems and addressing complex system-level issues.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

• Willingness to travel up to 75% within the designated territory.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in laboratory environments.

• Proficiency in English is required.

• Hands-on experience with SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar advanced analytical systems.

• Experience in diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems.

• Familiarity with high voltage equipment.

• Strong troubleshooting skills in electronics and mechanics to the component level.

• Capability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and system diagrams.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and service management software.

• Experience in documenting service activities and crafting detailed reports.

• Proven commitment to safety protocols and quality standards.

• Demonstrated success in contributing to customer satisfaction objectives.
