Field Installation Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oklahoma, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Execute field installations for ORBCOMM’s telematics, in-cab, and associated hardware solutions.

• Assist in pilot programs, large-scale deployments, and product rollouts.

• Ensure that installations adhere to project schedules, service expectations, standards, and best practices.

• Provide hands-on training to customers, partners, and third-party installers.

• Showcase installation procedures, product functionalities, and troubleshooting methods.

• Offer on-site and remote technical assistance during and following installations.

• Identify and resolve hardware, wiring, connectivity, and installation-related challenges.

• Collaborate with internal teams to escalate and address customer issues.

• Keep installation records, field reports, and supporting documentation up to date.

• Aid in the development, review, validation, and enhancement of installation guides and technical materials.

• Suggest improvements to installation processes, tools, and documentation.

• Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams on introducing new hardware and product enhancements.

• Provide field feedback to enhance products, installation techniques, and customer experiences.

• Maintain regular communication with Field Services, Customer Success, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders.

• Report to the Field Installation Team Lead.

• Travel approximately 80% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3–5+ years of experience in field installation, telematics, fleet technology, or a related technical field.

• Practical experience with in-cab systems, telematics devices, fleet technology, or similar hardware solutions.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and meticulous attention to detail.

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical installation documentation and wiring diagrams.

• Capability to troubleshoot hardware, wiring, and connectivity issues.

• Experience working in field environments, including vehicles, depots, and customer sites.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to train, coach, and assist customers, partners, or installers.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

• Capability to work independently while effectively collaborating across teams.

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (23 kg) regularly.

• Experience working with trucks, trailers, refrigerated units, and heavy equipment.

• Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and climb while performing installations and troubleshooting.

• Competence to work in tight or confined spaces.

• Skill in using hand and power tools safely and effectively for extended periods.

• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical work for long durations.

• Capacity to work indoors and outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions.

• Ability to climb ladders and safely access installation locations at different heights.

• Willingness to travel frequently.

• Valid driver's license and capability to operate a motor vehicle.

• Preferred: Experience with mobile installation applications or field service tools.

• Preferred: Familiarity with creating training materials, instructional content, or installation documentation.
