Field Director, Rheumatology

📋 Description

• Lead a team of Rheumatology Medical Science Liaisons at a regional level.

• Deliver scientific, clinical, research, and educational assistance to healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders.

• Collaborate with the MSL Head to establish and drive regional strategy.

• Convert Medical Affairs strategy into regional priorities, measurable objectives, and execution plans.

• Conduct strategy evaluations with direct reports using data, insights, AI tools, and performance trends.

• Mentor, support, and develop direct reports through constructive feedback, field observations, skills frameworks, and career planning.

• Implement field Medical Affairs initiatives, including product launches, proactive projects, and engagement with healthcare professionals.

• Ensure that MSLs exhibit scientific expertise, strong presentation skills, professional credibility, stakeholder influence, adaptive communication, and effective scientific storytelling.

• Remain updated on scientific developments and disease states.

• Ensure the collection and analysis of high-quality, actionable Medical Insights.

• Lead change management efforts while upholding professionalism, accountability, integrity, and resilience.

• Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Scientific Affairs, and cross-functional teams.

• Oversee regulatory and healthcare compliance, promoting ethical decision-making.

• Manage team performance through field visits, one-on-one meetings, coaching, feedback, training, development, and performance metrics.

• Ensure MSL territory plans are strategic, up-to-date, and actionable.

• Handle special projects and cross-functional support initiatives.

• Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse, high-performing team.

• Provide career and succession planning.

• Complete administrative responsibilities, including expense report approvals, team metric reports, compliance documentation, and operational reporting.

• Communicate team achievements, insights, and impacts to internal stakeholders and leadership.

• Engage in business planning and execute permissible field activities.

• Develop regional and organized-provider strategies alongside the MSL Head.

• Lead scientific projects and programs, translating field intelligence into strategic recommendations.

• Participate in or lead cross-functional and company-wide initiatives.

• Establish scalable processes to enhance alignment, efficiency, compliance, and cross-functional execution.


⛳️ Requirements

• A master’s degree is required as a minimum qualification.

• At least 8 years of relevant experience is required.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.

• At least 2 years of experience as an MSL or in a similar role is required.

• Candidates must reside in the assigned region and be in close proximity to an airport.

• Expect regional travel of approximately 60%, including overnight stays, attendance at periodic national scientific congresses, and key strategic/scientific meetings.

• A valid US driver’s license is required.

• A demonstrated commitment to learning about emerging technologies, including AI, is essential.

• Experience in fostering team AI literacy and confidence, along with promoting responsible AI use and sound judgment is preferred.

• PharmD, PhD, or MD is highly desirable.

• Clinical or research experience is preferred.

• Experience related to therapeutic areas is preferred.

• Previous experience in people management is preferred.

• Proficiency in data collection and analysis, clinical expertise, problem-solving, interpersonal influence, cross-functional collaboration, strategic thinking, and competitive landscape analysis is essential.
