Field Director, Rheumatology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +11 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee a regional team of Rheumatology Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs)

• Deliver scientific, clinical, research, and educational assistance to healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders

• Collaborate with the MSL Head to establish regional strategies, priorities, objectives, and implementation plans

• Perform strategy evaluations with MSL direct reports utilizing data, insights, AI tools, and performance trends

• Mentor, support, and nurture direct reports through feedback, field observations, skills frameworks, and career development

• Implement Medical Affairs programs, product launches, proactive initiatives, and healthcare professional engagement

• Ensure team members exhibit scientific knowledge, presentation abilities, professional credibility, stakeholder influence, adaptive communication, and effective scientific storytelling

• Gather and assess actionable Medical Insights and relay them to guide strategy, evidence generation, and lifecycle planning

• Drive change through professionalism, accountability, resilience, integrity, and engagement

• Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Scientific Affairs, and cross-functional partners

• Ensure adherence to regulatory and healthcare standards while promoting ethical decision-making

• Manage team performance through field visits, one-on-ones, coaching, feedback, training, development, and performance metrics

• Maintain strategic, up-to-date, and actionable MSL territory plans

• Recruit, retain, and cultivate a diverse, high-performing team

• Provide career and succession planning while identifying high-potential talent

• Complete administrative tasks such as expense approvals, team metric reports, compliance documentation, and operational reporting

• Share team accomplishments, insights, and impacts with internal stakeholders and leadership

• Lead scientific projects, programs, cross-functional initiatives, and field scientific strategies

• Transform field intelligence into strategic recommendations for internal stakeholders

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of a master’s degree is essential

• PharmD, PhD, or MD is strongly preferred

• At least 8 years of experience is required

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is mandatory

• At least 2 years of experience as an MSL or in a similar role is necessary

• Clinical/research experience is preferred

• Therapeutic area-related experience is desirable

• Previous experience in people management is preferred

• Strong proficiency in data collection and analysis, clinical expertise, problem-solving, interpersonal influence, cross-functional collaboration, strategic thinking, and competitive landscape analysis

• Must reside in the designated region and be close to an airport

• Willingness to travel regionally approximately 60%, including overnight trips, national scientific congresses, and strategic/scientific meetings

• A valid US driver’s license is required

• Proven commitment to learning and utilizing emerging technologies such as AI

• Experience in enhancing team AI literacy and confidence, while promoting the responsible use of AI and sound judgment
