This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Offer field and laboratory assistance to cultural resource initiatives across the United States.

• Conduct archaeological fieldwork, laboratory evaluations, and documentation.

• Execute pedestrian surveys, shovel test pit excavations, test unit and feature excavations, mapping, and site documentation.

• Assist with Phase I, II, and III field and laboratory studies.

• Operate under the guidance of Crew Chiefs, Field Directors, and Principal Investigators.

• Collaborate with technical field, laboratory, office, management, and administrative personnel to fulfill AECOM quality standards.

• Aid supervisors with graphic support, writing tasks, travel coordination, project and paperwork management, and preparation of field equipment.

• Carry out data entry, artifact labeling, and record duplication for curation purposes.

• Engage in manual labor, including excavating with shovels and transporting wheelbarrows filled with soil.

• Construct or repair field and laboratory equipment as necessary.


⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma is required.

• A valid U.S. Driver’s License is necessary.

• Must successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records review as a condition of employment.

• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.

• Capability to execute basic field excavation techniques.

• Proficiency in processing recovered archaeological artifacts (washing, cataloging, and marking).

• Ability to accurately complete field and laboratory forms.

• Capacity to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Willingness to work in outdoor environments, endure prolonged walking or standing, navigate varied terrains, and adapt to diverse weather conditions.

• A BA or BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field, or equivalent experience and/or education is preferred.

• Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Total Station, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, and statistical analysis tools such as SAS or SPSS is preferred.

• Completion of a university-based archaeological field school is preferred.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities are essential.

• Previous relevant internship experience is preferred.

• No current or future sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization is available.
