English Instructor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Instruct small groups of students in essential English skills for ACT and SAT preparation

• Monitor student progress through Vanguard’s multi-phase curriculum

• Engage students in personalized growth and improvement opportunities

• Maintain and update lesson schedules for students

• Hold students accountable for their assignments

• Exemplify professionalism and strong organizational abilities through timely communication with students

• Develop and creatively implement evolving lesson plans and curriculum

• Mentor middle and high school students throughout the college application process

• Collaborate with instructors, counselors, and specialists to promote student success

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a humanities field from U.S. institutions (English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Publishing, etc.)

• A Master's degree or higher is preferred

• 1+ years of teaching experience in English and/or experience in a college-level Writing Center

• Proven academic excellence (e.g., 3.5+ GPA)

• Strong verbal communication skills and mastery of the English language

• Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Google Suite

• A reliable internet connection and a workspace with minimal noise/distractions

• Commitment to work during specified hours of operation

• Experience teaching at the college or community college level is an additional preferred qualification

• Understanding of classroom pedagogy and ability to design customized, engaging lesson plans

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting
