Engineering Team Lead – Java, React

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Allocate approximately 50% of your time to writing production code and 50% to planning, technical strategy, and team development.

• Lead a small full-stack engineering team in a distributed SaaS setting.

• Design and deliver full-stack features from end-to-end, utilizing Java services and APIs, PostgreSQL data schemas, and React UI.

• Oversee technical design for distributed systems, including microservices and event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.

• Create design documentation and assess technical trade-offs.

• Modernize legacy code and spearhead migrations from monoliths to microservices.

• Utilize AI coding tools regularly and back up opinions with tangible examples.

• Initiate and standardize AI and agentic workflows for coding, reviews, quality assurance, and documentation with guardrails and measurable outcomes.

• Enhance engineering quality through code reviews, pair programming, and personal pull requests.

• Mentor engineers by establishing clear expectations, providing direct feedback, and conducting one-on-one meetings.

• Manage planning, prioritization, and estimation in alignment with the roadmap.

• Transform ambiguous requirements into clear actionable plans.

• Optimize CI/CD processes, testing, and observability practices across Azure, AWS, or GCP.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of professional engineering experience, including over 3 years in a leadership role such as team lead or tech lead.

• Strong full-stack development skills: deep expertise on one side and practical competence on the other.

• Proficient in backend development with Java and PostgreSQL.

• Expertise in frontend development using React.

• Strong skills in system design: including distributed systems, REST APIs, event-driven architectures, microservices, and data-intensive applications.

• Operational experience in production environments with Docker, CI/CD, and observability tools.

• Daily engagement with AI coding tools; capable of articulating their use, what has been discontinued, and the reasoning behind those decisions, supported by examples.

• Experience in test automation using JUnit, Playwright, or Cypress.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, with a preference for Azure; AWS or GCP experience is also acceptable.

• Experience working within Agile, cross-functional teams.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly convey technical decisions across teams.

• Fluent in English at a C1/C2 level is essential.

• Knowledge of NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Redis is preferred.

• Experience with Kubernetes is a plus.
