Engineering Manager – Partner Proposition

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Provide guidance on technical direction and manage a small engineering team.

• Collaborate with the Product Manager to establish priorities while balancing new initiatives with ongoing enhancements.

• Engage with engineering leaders throughout the organization to exchange best practices and enhance engineering culture.

• Foster clarity, consistency, and momentum within the squad.

• Take ownership of technical decisions and ensure alignment with company and technical strategies.

• Set team objectives and drive prioritization efforts.

• Implement practices that fulfill security and operational service-level goals.

• Coordinate on-call coverage across the organization.

• Lead regular reviews of metrics related to coverage and performance.

• Establish OKRs in conjunction with the Product Manager and the team.

• Identify and address risks and obstacles.

• Assess and communicate team performance, including OKRs, KPIs, and milestones.

• Co-lead annual and quarterly planning for the squad.

• Staff the squad, enhance team capabilities, and recruit as necessary.

• Onboard, train, develop, and mentor team members.

• Participate in performance evaluations and promotion assessments.

• Convey the company's, department's, and pillar's strategies to the squad.

• Address interpersonal conflicts and gather, share, and act on feedback.

• Communicate updates on company and department changes.

• Advocate for the team’s perspective to senior leadership.

• Collaborate with UX, data, and other cross-functional teams.

• Co-lead the squad alongside the Product Manager.

• Ensure team operational expenditures (OpEx) and capital expenditures (CapEx) stay within budget.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in the core technology stack: gRPC, GraphQL, React, Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes.

• Experience with Go is advantageous but not mandatory.

• Proven track record of taking responsibility for technical decisions and aligning them with strategic objectives.

• Strong understanding of engineering practices with an ability to pinpoint areas for improvement.

• Experience in defining team objectives and driving prioritization.

• Capability to collaborate with Product Managers to establish OKRs that align with company objectives.

• Ability to co-lead annual and quarterly planning sessions.

• Experience in early risk identification and mitigation strategies.

• Familiarity with identifying practices related to security and service-level objectives (SLOs).

• Skill in promoting operational excellence and leading reviews of metrics.

• Experience managing a team of engineers.

• Ability to onboard, train, develop, and mentor team members effectively.

• Participation in performance evaluations and promotion assessments is essential.

• Intermediate understanding of customer and market insights.

• Ability to communicate strategy effectively to the squad.

• Experience in fostering a positive team dynamic and resolving interpersonal conflicts.

• Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional colleagues.
