Engineering Manager – Energy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Co-lead an autonomous engineering team in collaboration with a Product Manager

• Collaborate across functions with UX and Data team members

• Foster clarity, consistency, and momentum within the team

• Act as the team's representative to senior leadership

• Serve as a liaison with stakeholders throughout the organization

• Make technical decisions and align them with the company's strategic objectives

• Establish team goals and guide prioritization efforts

• Implement security and operational practices to achieve SLOs

• Organize company-wide on-call coverage

• Conduct regular reviews of metrics related to coverage and performance

• Collaborate with the Product Manager and team to set OKRs

• Identify and address risks and obstacles

• Assess and communicate team performance, OKRs, KPIs, and milestones

• Co-lead the planning process for annual and quarterly initiatives

• Equip the team with necessary technical competencies, including recruitment as needed

• Facilitate onboarding, training, development, and coaching for direct reports

• Engage in performance calibration and promotion evaluations

• Convey company, department, and pillar strategies to the team

• Address interpersonal conflicts and take action based on feedback

• Relay updates about company and departmental changes

• Collaborate with UX, Data, and other cross-functional teams

• Ensure team expenditures remain within budget

⛳️ Requirements

• Familiarity with gRPC, GraphQL, React, Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes (experience is a plus)

• Preferred experience with Go, though it is not essential

• Proven experience leading the team's technical design processes and facilitating discussions

• Capability to drive technical decisions to clear, well-documented results

• Experience validating designs and architecture against real-world edge cases and domain variations

• Ability to take ownership of technical decisions that align with product and engineering strategies

• Strong grasp of engineering best practices

• Practical experience with AI development tools

• Experience in defining team goals and driving prioritization

• Ability to collaborate with Product Managers to establish OKRs that align with company objectives

• Experience co-leading annual and quarterly planning sessions

• Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate risks early

• Experience in improving delivery predictability

• Familiarity with identifying practices for security and SLOs

• Capability to drive operational excellence and lead metrics reviews

• Experience in managing a team of engineers

• Proven track record in onboarding, training, developing, and coaching team members

• Participation in performance calibration and promotion evaluations

• Intermediate understanding of customer and market insights

• Ability to communicate strategy effectively to the team

• Experience in building deep domain knowledge in complex, multi-variant fields

• Ability to push back when requirements or designs are unclear or incomplete

• Experience in fostering a positive team dynamic and resolving interpersonal conflicts

• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional colleagues
