This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Provide guidance for the technical direction and advancement of a small engineering team.
• Work closely with the Product Manager to establish priorities and balance new initiatives with enhancements.
• Engage with engineering leaders throughout the organization to exchange best practices and enhance engineering culture.
• Make technical decisions that are in accordance with the company's and technical strategy.
• Identify opportunities for improving engineering practices.
• Set team objectives and drive prioritization efforts.
• Implement practices to achieve security and operational service level objectives (SLOs).
• Oversee organization-wide on-call coverage coordination.
• Conduct regular reviews of metrics related to coverage and performance.
• Collaborate with the Product Manager and team to establish OKRs.
• Identify and address risks and obstacles.
• Evaluate team performance and report progress against OKRs, KPIs, and milestones.
• Co-facilitate annual and quarterly planning for the squad.
• Staff the squad with necessary technical skills, including hiring when required.
• Onboard, train, mentor, and develop team members.
• Participate in performance evaluations and promotion assessments.
• Communicate the company, department, and pillar strategies to the squad.
• Address interpersonal conflicts and gather, share, and act on feedback.
• Inform the team about company and department changes.
• Collaborate with UX, data, and other cross-functional teams.
• Co-lead the squad alongside the Product Manager.
• Manage team operational expenditures (OpEx) and capital expenditures (CapEx) within budget.
• Familiarity with core technology stack: gRPC, GraphQL, React, Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Go is preferred but not mandatory.
• Proven ability to take ownership of technical decisions and align them with company strategy.
• Understanding of engineering practices with the capacity to identify enhancements.
• Experience in defining team objectives and driving prioritization.
• Ability to collaborate with Product Managers to establish OKRs that align with company objectives.
• Capacity to co-lead annual and quarterly planning sessions.
• Experience in early identification and mitigation of risks.
• Knowledge of practices related to security and service level objectives (SLOs).
• Ability to promote operational excellence and lead metrics reviews.
• Experience managing a team of engineers.
• Competence in onboarding, training, developing, and coaching team members.
• Experience in performance calibration and promotion reviews.
• Intermediate understanding of customer and market insights.
• Ability to communicate strategy effectively to the squad.
• Experience in fostering a positive team dynamic and resolving interpersonal conflicts.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional colleagues.
