This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Lithuania.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of firmware and embedded engineers, as well as team leads when applicable.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide career development guidance, and deliver performance feedback.
• Manage the delivery of the team’s roadmap by planning, prioritizing, and removing obstacles to work.
• Balance the need for addressing technical debt with the development of new features.
• Oversee network security, parental control, and device intelligence features for Linux-based CPE devices.
• Guide the porting efforts as new vendor platforms become available.
• Participate in technical design and architecture reviews.
• Make informed decisions regarding native code design, network-stack integration, memory and performance budgets, and platform portability.
• Steward the team’s transition from C to Rust in embedded contexts.
• Own the strategy for functional, performance, and resilience testing.
• Manage automated test infrastructure and planning for the test lab, including investment decisions.
• Promote test automation, CI/CD practices, code reviews, documentation, and incident response.
• Continuously enhance team processes.
• Collaborate with product management, architecture, and other engineering managers.
• Manage dependencies across cloud and backend, QA, delivery, and operator-facing teams.
• Clearly communicate trade-offs to stakeholders.
• Drive recruitment efforts, including hiring, onboarding, and team structure decisions.
• Report on team health, delivery risks, and technical direction to senior leadership.
• Operate within CUJO AI’s ISO 9001 and SOC 2 Type 2 regulated operating model.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software, firmware, or networking engineering, including at least 2 years in a formal or informal leadership role.
• Proven track record of managing and developing engineers or engineering leads.
• Hands-on engineering experience in native code development on Linux.
• Ability to assess architecture and review designs in C and/or Rust.
• Working understanding of the Linux network stack and Linux OS architecture.
• Familiarity with embedded Linux build systems such as OpenWrt, Yocto, or Buildroot.
• Understanding of the costs associated with cross-platform porting.
• Experience overseeing the delivery of a product area from roadmap planning through launch and post-launch support.
• Appreciation for CI/CD, TDD, and test automation methodologies.
• Comfort in navigating ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information.
• Experience with agile or iterative delivery practices, such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in a global organization collaborating with international teams.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
• Direct experience in shipping embedded systems, firmware, or networking/Wi-Fi products at scale is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with Rust in production embedded contexts or leading a C-to-Rust transition is advantageous.
• Experience in building firewalls, protocol clients, or deep-packet/traffic-inspection software is beneficial.
• Familiarity with Wi-Fi chipsets and drivers, including Broadcom, MediaTek, and Qualcomm, is advantageous.
• Experience with CPE, router, or gateway platforms and vendor SDKs is a plus.
• Experience in leading teams that ship into operator or carrier environments is beneficial.
• Experience in designing automated test infrastructure for embedded or network products and physical lab environments is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Jenkins or comparable CI/CD tools at scale is a plus.
• Experience managing remote or distributed teams is beneficial.
• Experience in regulated or certified environments is advantageous.
• Prior experience with stage-gate or concept-gate processes is a plus.
• Experience in mentoring engineers into senior and staff-level roles is beneficial.
