This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Lithuania.
• Lead, mentor, and expand a team of firmware and embedded engineers, including team leads when necessary.
• Take ownership of the team's roadmap by effectively planning, prioritizing, and removing obstacles to workflow.
• Balance the management of technical debt with the development of new features.
• Oversee the implementation of network security, parental control, and device intelligence functionalities for Linux-based CPE devices.
• Direct porting initiatives as new vendor platforms become available.
• Engage in technical design and architecture reviews that cover native code design, network-stack integration, memory and performance budgets, and platform portability.
• Guide the team's transition from C to Rust within embedded contexts.
• Manage the strategy for functional, performance, and resilience testing, along with automated test infrastructure and test lab planning.
• Advocate for test automation, CI/CD practices, code reviews, documentation, and incident response strategies.
• Collaborate with product management, architecture, and fellow engineering managers.
• Handle cross-team dependencies involving cloud and backend, QA, delivery, and operator-facing teams.
• Lead hiring initiatives, onboarding processes, and team structural decisions in partnership with recruiting.
• Report on team health, delivery risks, and technical direction to senior leadership.
• Operate within CUJO AI's ISO 9001 and SOC 2 Type 2 regulated and governed operating framework.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software, firmware, or networking engineering, including at least 2 years in a formal or informal leadership position.
• Proven experience in managing and developing engineers or engineering leads.
• Hands-on engineering experience in native code development on Linux systems.
• Capability to assess architecture and review designs in C and/or Rust.
• Familiarity with the Linux network stack and Linux OS architecture.
• Experience with embedded Linux build systems such as OpenWrt, Yocto, or Buildroot.
• Proven track record of owning product delivery from roadmap planning to launch and post-launch support.
• Understanding of CI/CD, TDD, and test automation principles.
• Ability to operate comfortably in ambiguous situations and make decisions with incomplete information.
• Experience with agile or iterative delivery methodologies (such as Scrum, Kanban, or similar).
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in a global organization with international teams.
• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
• Direct experience in shipping embedded systems, firmware, or networking/Wi-Fi products at scale.
• Practical Rust experience in a production embedded environment, or experience overseeing a C-to-Rust transition.
• Experience with building firewalls, protocol clients, or deep packet/traffic inspection software.
• Familiarity with Wi-Fi chipsets and drivers (such as Broadcom, MediaTek, Qualcomm) and OpenWrt-based gateway solutions.
• Knowledge of CPE, router, or gateway platforms and vendor SDKs.
• Experience leading teams that deliver products in operator or carrier environments.
• Experience designing automated test infrastructure for embedded or network products, including physical lab setups.
• Familiarity with Jenkins or comparable CI/CD systems operating at scale across a multi-platform build matrix.
• Experience managing remote or distributed teams.
• Knowledge of working in regulated or certified environments (such as ISO 9001, SOC 2 Type 2, or similar).
• Prior experience navigating formal product maturity frameworks (like stage-gate or concept-gate processes).
• Experience in developing engineers into senior and staff-level roles.
• Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, and Slack for team operations.
