Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Egypt.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and cultivate a team of software engineers.

• Take ownership of team delivery, execution, and overall engineering health.

• Collaborate with Product to transform business priorities into actionable technical plans.

• Engage in architecture, design, and engineering discussions.

• Implement practices for code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and documentation.

• Balance feature development with technical debt, scalability, and platform reliability.

• Work alongside Principal and Senior Engineers on architectural and complex technical decisions.

• Leverage engineering metrics and qualitative signals to enhance team effectiveness, quality, and delivery.

• Identify dependencies and obstacles while coordinating efforts across teams.

• Foster a culture of ownership and accountability.

• Assist with hiring, onboarding, performance management, career growth, and succession planning.

• Contribute to wider Engineering initiatives and enhance software development practices.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering leaders, Principal Engineers, Platform, AI/ML, Security, and other stakeholders.

• Address complex challenges related to global employment, payroll, compliance, automation, and AI.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of professional software engineering experience, including building and maintaining production systems.

• Strong practical experience with Java and its ecosystem.

• Demonstrated experience in leading or managing software engineering teams.

• Strong technical judgment with the ability to engage in architecture and technical discussions.

• Familiarity with modern software development practices, Java-based backend systems, cloud-native architectures, APIs, distributed systems, and CI/CD.

• Solid understanding of software quality, automated testing, observability, security, and operational excellence.

• Experience in defining and utilizing engineering effectiveness and delivery metrics, including DORA metrics, flow metrics, and quality and reliability indicators.

• Strong comprehension of AI-assisted and agentic software development, with practical experience using contemporary AI coding tools and agents.

• Experience collaborating closely with Product in an agile product-development setting.

• Strong people-management skills, encompassing coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development.

• Ability to convert ambiguous business requirements into structured execution plans.

• Data-informed approach to engineering performance.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Professional proficiency in English.
