Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the well-being, productivity, and development of an engineering team spread across various time zones, overseeing everything from recruitment to career progression and performance management.

• Collaborate with product management to define the team's roadmap, striking a balance between feature delivery, technical investments, and operational wellness.

• Establish and uphold the quality standards for the team’s platform area, encompassing engineering practices, observability, reliability, and work reviews.

• Oversee planning, prioritization, retrospectives, and the daily delivery rhythm.

• Manage inter-team dependencies and facilitate effective communication.

• Contribute to engineering-wide standards, tooling, process enhancements, and initiatives for engineer development.

• Address incidents and operational challenges, taking ownership of follow-ups and ensuring that corrective measures are executed.

• Provide engineers with consistent feedback and create avenues for their professional growth.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years managing teams of five or more engineers.

• Demonstrated engineering management experience with distributed or remote-first teams operating across multiple time zones.

• Strong technical expertise in software engineering, with sufficient depth to guide architectural and infrastructure choices.

• Experience collaborating with product management to set priorities and achieve significant results.

• Proven ability to hire effectively, onboard successfully, and build teams that retain top talent.

• Commitment to engineering quality, including observability, analytics and reporting, testing practices, and ensuring the team delivers work they can be proud of.

• Familiarity with technologies such as Go, Scala, React/TypeScript, Next.js, GraphQL, and gRPC.

• Experience with AWS and Kubernetes.

• Background in real-time, event-driven, or high-value transaction systems.

• Experience in establishing engineering standards, governance, or communities of practice.

• Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, or auction domains is advantageous.
