Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement efficient, scalable, and robust backend systems, primarily utilizing Rails and Go.

• Identify and extract well-defined capabilities from existing Rails systems, creating clear interfaces and incremental migration strategies.

• Develop reliable data flows between backend services and data warehouses like BigQuery and Snowflake.

• Lead complex projects from initial discovery and technical design through to implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.

• Break down tasks into manageable components, define sequencing and ownership, and maintain visibility on risks and dependencies.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, Data, Platform, and engineers across various domains to coordinate dependencies and clarify uncertainties.

• Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and enhance backend resilience.

• Propose and advocate for architectural decisions regarding team services.

• Provide mentorship to engineers through code reviews, pair programming, design discussions, and technical advice.

• Enhance code quality, testing procedures, observability, deployment processes, and operational ownership.

• Participate in the on-call rotation, conduct root cause analysis, and contribute to long-term reliability enhancements.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience in developing production Ruby on Rails applications.

• Demonstrated success in owning and delivering complex, multi-component features within a team setting.

• Experience in designing and managing backend systems that accommodate significant scale and complexity.

• Proven ability to coordinate technical efforts across team boundaries while proactively managing dependencies, risks, and evolving requirements.

• Expert-level proficiency in Ruby on Rails.

• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, encompassing schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning at scale.

• Solid grasp of API design principles, including RESTful services, serialization strategies, and versioning.

• Experience with background job processing (e.g., Sidekiq) and asynchronous workflows.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation practices.

• Understanding of observability practices, including logging, metrics, and tracing.

• Basic knowledge of Go.
