Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Oversee a team of engineers on a daily basis by reviewing code, engaging in design discussions, and occasionally contributing code.

• Propel execution by deconstructing ambiguous challenges into actionable plans, establishing sprint objectives, eliminating obstacles, and ensuring team accountability.

• Take responsibility for the entire software development lifecycle from planning and design through to implementation, testing, and release.

• Facilitate sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives utilizing GitHub and internal tools.

• Advocate for modern and secure software development methodologies.

• Collaborate with product managers to convert customer and community challenges into actionable plans.

• Mentor and coach engineers, offering constructive feedback, supporting their technical development, and establishing a robust hiring pipeline.

• Promote ownership, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the team.

• Assist open-source contributors and lead community-oriented initiatives.

• Communicate progress and potential risks to engineering leadership.

• Make well-informed technical trade-off decisions while empowering engineers with implementation specifics.

• Collaborate with the Director of Engineering, Product team, and fellow engineering managers on cross-functional projects, user experience, dependencies, and challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Engineering Manager or Team Lead.

• Proven experience in a player-coach role, regularly writing code or reviewing pull requests.

• Demonstrated success in driving projects to completion within tight deadlines.

• Strong technical expertise capable of reviewing designs and code effectively.

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and CI/CD processes.

• Proficient in using GitHub for code management, project tracking, and collaboration.

• Good understanding of software security principles and best practices.

• Experience with open-source software development and community involvement is an asset.

• Exceptional and clear communication skills.

• Proven ability to mentor engineers and facilitate their growth.

• Experience in the networking industry is advantageous.

• Knowledge of Python, Django, Go, gRPC, or OpenTelemetry is a plus.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms and services such as AWS and Azure is preferred.

• Understanding of Docker and Kubernetes is desirable.

• Awareness of data privacy regulations and compliance requirements is beneficial.
