Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead, develop, and retain a team of 8–10 engineers, encompassing hiring, performance management, career development, and team delivery cadence.

• Establish the technical direction for the Courier domain, focusing on dispatch strategy, matching, courier pricing, and ETA.

• Drive the creation of RFCs, high-level and low-level design documents, execution plans, and uphold high engineering standards.

• Define metrics, necessitate measurement pre and post changes, and utilize A/B and quasi-experimental testing.

• Collaborate with data scientists and ML systems on dispatch optimization, dynamic and surge pricing, forecasting, and ETA prediction.

• Provide guidance on highly concurrent, low-latency systems managing substantial real-time throughput and logistics data pipelines.

• Own the reliability and root-cause analysis for the Courier domain.

• Advocate for staging/E2E validation, observability, tracing, metrics, and CI/CD practices.

• Work in partnership with product, operations, data science, and engineering teams.

• Balance immediate delivery with long-term architectural stability and pinpoint structural improvements.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering.

• 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.

• Background in fast-paced product startups or large-scale tech enterprises.

• Proven history of leading teams that deliver reliable, high-scale backend/distributed systems.

• Strong judgement in hiring, delivery, and elevating technical standards.

• Solid understanding of data science and statistics, including experimentation, causal inference, forecasting, and optimization/ML concepts.

• Knowledge of distributed systems involving concurrency, event-driven architectures, and CAP theorem trade-offs.

• Proficient with SQL and a backend programming language such as Go, Python, or Ruby.

• Familiarity with production data pipelines that support models and metrics.

• Problem-solving skills based on first principles, balancing reliability, latency, scalability, and cost.

• Preference for early shipping and iterative incremental changes.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity, establish technical and organizational expectations, manage stakeholders, and excel in a fast-paced environment.

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
