This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Serve as the engineering execution and leadership counterpart to the Chief Product Technology Officer (CPTO), translating the product and technical vision into precise expectations and actions for teams.
• Collaborate with the CPTO to shape the Engineering organization, ensuring alignment of teams, roles, and capabilities with essential product modules and the company's strategic direction.
• Drive organizational transformation by restructuring teams, redefining roles and responsibilities, communicating changes clearly, and stabilizing teams post-transition.
• Establish performance benchmarks, deliver direct feedback, conduct performance discussions, nurture high achievers, and address instances of underperformance.
• Foster trust among technical and non-technical stakeholders by bridging communication between executive leadership, business needs, and engineering perspectives.
• Identify skill gaps and assist in deciding whether to develop capabilities internally, hire differently, redesign roles, or implement organizational changes.
• Create accountability while minimizing unnecessary processes and intervene when organizational momentum is lacking.
• Collaborate with the CPTO to highlight Engineering signals, constructively challenge direction as needed, and convert decisions into actionable change at an effective pace.
• Proven experience in people leadership within software engineering teams, demonstrating the ability to lead through periods of change.
• Exceptional communication and listening abilities, with the capacity to tailor messages for senior leaders, market-facing stakeholders, and highly technical engineers.
• Experience in providing direct feedback, engaging in difficult conversations, managing performance, and instilling accountability.
• Technical credibility that enables understanding of contemporary software architecture and engineering practices, engaging senior engineers, and translating technical decisions into organizational impacts.
• Hands-on experience with organizational design, team structures, or capability development, aimed at aligning the organization with product goals.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a sense of ownership, including the ability to test and refine approaches without a comprehensive playbook.
• Pragmatic change leadership that balances high standards with empathy and the readiness to make tough decisions.
• Capability to work effectively within European time zones.
• Ability to influence the organization without having direct ownership over the CPTO’s product, architecture, or technical direction.
