Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of Cardiff's engineering department, which includes in-house engineers, contractors, offshore Salesforce developers, and vendor partnerships.

• Report directly to the Managing Partner and play an integral role in the leadership team.

• Establish delivery rhythms and provide direct status updates to the business.

• Oversee planning, prioritization, reviews, unblocking, hiring, onboarding, one-on-ones, performance management, and team development.

• Develop and deliver production software, with a leadership focus of 60% and hands-on development of 40%.

• Manage the Salesforce/Fundingo core, Cardiff API, Snowflake, cloud infrastructure, and transition from legacy systems.

• Design and manage production AI agent systems featuring orchestration loops, tool utilization, graph retrieval, assessments, and human checkpoints.

• Oversee both customer-facing and internal AI agents.

• Construct and sustain the knowledge graph and data pipelines.

• Assess and manage vendors, integrations, and vendor performance.

• Ensure uptime, data integrity, access control, security, and incident response are maintained.

• Review code and architecture, ensuring that AI-generated code is accurate prior to deployment.

• Manage offshore and contract developers to meet the same standards as in-house personnel.

• Collaborate with Salesforce, Snowflake, Gmail, Zoom, Slack, Twilio, and internal tools.

• Make AI tooling the standard engineering workflow.

• Deliver functional versions swiftly and enhance them through iterative improvements.

• Assume responsibility for production incidents and create post-incident reports.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience in building production software.

• A minimum of 3 years managing engineers directly.

• Proven experience leading a team of 4 or more.

• History of meeting delivery deadlines and the ability to discuss missed deadlines along with corrective measures.

• Experience in writing and deploying production code within the past year.

• Capability to review pull requests and identify issues.

• Production experience with agent systems, which includes orchestration loops, graphs, multi-step tool usage, multi-agent patterns, RAG over real data, and assessments.

• Familiarity with coding agents as a primary development approach, such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar tools.

• Recent instance of delivering a project 3–5 times faster using coding agents.

• Proficient in Python, modern JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, REST/GraphQL, and cloud deployment.

• AWS experience is preferred.

• Well-versed in the open-source AI ecosystem and able to make build-versus-adopt decisions.

• Excellent written communication skills and a strong discipline for early escalation.
