Engineering Lead – Sports Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Establish practical technical direction and oversee system design across clients, APIs, services, data, infrastructure, and integrations

• Generate pull requests, develop production code, and launch new features

• Participate in technical designs, investigations, and reviews

• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to transform unclear opportunities into well-defined milestones, manageable deliverables, and regular releases

• Formally supervise three to four engineers through setting expectations, conducting one-on-ones, giving feedback, managing performance, and supporting development

• Mentor engineers through design discussions, reviews, pairing, debugging, and addressing production incidents

• Advocate for effective testing, observability, safe releases, and robust production feedback mechanisms

• Make informed technical trade-offs, maintain visibility of risks, and enhance systems in response to production challenges

• Utilize AI responsibly and assist with hiring, onboarding, and shared engineering practices

• Partner with Trading to enhance sportsbook tools and boost operational efficiency

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive backend engineering experience, including a background in senior or lead roles

• Profound backend knowledge with a full-stack, systems-thinking approach across clients, APIs, services, data, infrastructure, and operations

• Strong proficiency in Python or experience with another modern backend programming language, along with a willingness to learn Python

• Proven experience in setting technical direction and designing, delivering, and managing reliable systems

• Experience in formally managing engineers or compelling evidence of readiness to take ownership of one-on-ones, feedback, performance, and development for a team of three to four

• Capability to constructively challenge assumptions and simplify ambiguous, complex tasks into safe, manageable deliverables

• Solid understanding of database and production engineering principles, including AWS, CI/CD, and observability

• Strong and vibrant communication skills

• Must currently reside in the UK
