This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
β’ Establish practical technical strategies and oversee system architecture involving clients, APIs, services, data, infrastructure, and integrations.
β’ Develop pull requests, write production-ready code, and launch new features.
β’ Engage in technical design contributions, investigations, and reviews.
β’ Collaborate with Product and Design teams to transform vague opportunities into well-defined milestones, manageable deliverables, and regular releases.
β’ Supervise a team of three to six engineers by setting expectations, conducting one-on-ones, providing feedback, managing performance, and offering development support.
β’ Mentor engineers through design discussions, reviews, pair programming, debugging, and handling production incidents.
β’ Advocate for robust testing, observability, safe releases, and effective production feedback mechanisms.
β’ Make informed technical trade-offs, maintain visibility on risks, and enhance systems following production issues.
β’ Utilize AI in a responsible manner.
β’ Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and the establishment of shared engineering practices.
β’ Extensive backend engineering experience, particularly in senior or lead roles.
β’ Profound backend knowledge with a comprehensive, systems-thinking approach across clients, APIs, services, data, infrastructure, and operations.
β’ Strong proficiency in Python or experience with another modern backend language, along with a willingness to learn Python.
β’ Proven experience in setting technical direction and in the design, delivery, and operation of reliable systems.
β’ Experience in formally managing engineers, or compelling evidence of readiness to handle one-on-ones, feedback, performance evaluations, and development for a team of three to six.
β’ Ability to constructively challenge assumptions and distill ambiguous, complex tasks into manageable and secure deliverables.
β’ Solid foundation in database management and production engineering principles, including AWS, CI/CD, and observability.
β’ Clear, enthusiastic communication skills.
β’ Currently residing in the UK.
β’ Full right to work in the UK.
β’ No current or future requirement for sponsorship to work in the UK.
