Engineering Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Directly oversee the Create Core platform engineering team.

• Establish goals and expectations while empowering engineers to take charge of execution.

• Collaborate with Product and application teams to prioritize the Core roadmap.

• Manage the platform as a product by understanding the needs of consuming teams and making informed build/decline decisions.

• Articulate the platform direction and assist application teams in planning accordingly.

• Make strategic decisions regarding platform scope, adoption sequencing, and cross-team trade-offs.

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the business needs addressed by the team.

• Guide the architecture of shared libraries and services.

• Enhance the developer experience through documentation, streamlined processes, reference implementations, and local-first tooling.

• Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards across Core components via assistive-technology testing.

• Collaborate with the Principal Engineer, architects, engineering directors, product, and design leaders on technical strategy and platform evolution.

• Foster communication, a positive culture, engagement, diversity, and inclusion.

• Define Agile team ceremonies and optimize productive work time.

• Support and invest in the growth of team members.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7 years of experience in Agile software application development.

• Proficient in delivering web-based products or platform-level features within cloud-first environments.

• Experience in production coding and code review with TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and React.

• Ability to design and assess AWS-based architectures using industry best practices.

• Experience managing teams of 4 to 8 direct reports.

• Accountability for the output of a technical team.

• Experience overseeing product or platform features, infrastructure, and vendor management.

• Proven track record of ensuring compliance with internal policies.

• Extensive people-management experience, including hiring, engaging, and developing team members.

• Experience leading engineering and architectural discussions and aligning stakeholders.

• Strong skills in planning, prioritization, and execution.

• Experience in establishing new teams and foundations for new products.

• Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, and feedback capabilities.

• Willingness to travel 3-5 times a year to the NYC or Reston, VA office.
