This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define and steer the technical vision for the Core Insurance Product Configuration & Enrollment Platform.
• Align the technical strategy of the team with Bestow's overall platform strategy and business goals.
• Encourage configuration-driven consistency rather than custom partner solutions.
• Provide architectural direction across the configuration layer, enrollment workflow engine, and event-sourced domain services.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives that involve teams outside of the direct reporting structure.
• Manage and clarify roles and responsibilities between interdependent teams.
• Represent Bestow in technical due diligence and vendor negotiations with carrier partners, vendors, and technology firms.
• Assess new technologies for potential platform integration.
• Promote technical excellence, innovation, and a culture of continuous learning.
• Ensure delivery commitments to carrier partners, including user acceptance testing (UAT) handoff deadlines, and report progress to executive leadership.
• Collaborate with Product, Delivery Management, Underwriting, and Compliance to uncover requirements and dependencies.
• Oversee incident management, root-cause analysis, systemic incident reviews, and subsequent actions.
• Ensure service-owning teams manage their services and the supporting infrastructure.
• Develop scalable testing strategies for rules and configuration.
• Advocate for data and metrics to inform technical decisions and maintain system health.
• Convert business requirements and partner roadmaps into technical strategies and staffing plans.
• Lead, mentor, and develop Engineering Managers and their leadership teams.
• Create high-performing teams that embody ownership, accountability, and psychological safety.
• Conduct performance management, career development paths, scorecards, calibration, feedback, and growth planning.
• Maintain knowledge depth and redundancy within the team.
• Act as the hiring manager, overseeing recruiting processes and hiring timelines.
• Manage relationships with contractors and vendor partners.
• Establish efficient engineering processes and ceremonies.
• Guide the adoption of AI-augmented development strategies.
• Promote the use of Claude Code, Claude Tag, GitHub Copilot, and AIDLC methodologies.
• Set standards for AI-generated code, testing, and documentation.
• Collaborate with Security, IT, and Compliance to implement safe AI tooling controls.
• Mentor engineers and managers on AI competencies.
• Create self-service knowledge resources utilizing AI.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Over 8 years of professional experience in software development.
• At least 5 years of progressive experience in engineering management, including managing other managers.
• Experience leading 2-3 Engineering Managers and a team of approximately 20-30 engineers across various teams.
• Proven ability to design, build, and operate distributed systems and microservices architectures at scale.
• Familiarity with event-driven and event-sourced designs.
• Extensive experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, encompassing schema design, data modeling, and performance optimization.
• Strong proficiency in Golang and/or Python for backend services.
• Experience in API design using gRPC and REST.
• Knowledge of asynchronous messaging patterns.
• Recent experience transforming at least one team to fully adopt agentic engineering practices.
• In-depth expertise across the software development lifecycle.
• Ability to understand frontend composition, data platforms, and infrastructure.
• Capability to contribute to team codebases and participate in architectural decisions.
• Strong advocate for automated testing and test-driven development.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define and monitor key metrics, accountability, committed dates, and SLAs.
• Skill in managing competing priorities across multiple teams and partner commitments.
• Talent for attracting, hiring, mentoring, and retaining engineering talent.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in life insurance, annuities, or regulated industries is a significant advantage.
• Experience in delivering implementations for enterprise or carrier partners within contractual timelines is a strong plus.
• Must be located in the contiguous 48 United States.
