This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Execute and manage electrical substation design for projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV, encompassing layouts and station service systems.

• Take the lead in preparing and reviewing one-line and phasing diagrams, substation layouts, sections, equipment arrangements, grounding/grid layouts, and conduit and cable routing plans.

• Conduct and independently verify grounding studies, lightning protection analyses, switchyard illumination studies, and both rigid and flexible bus studies.

• Take ownership of assigned design packages, ensuring quality, completeness, and adherence to project specifications.

• Draft and assess design criteria, technical specifications, reports, and drawing lists.

• Evaluate vendor drawings and technical submissions for compliance with project specifications and design intent.

• Offer engineering support throughout the construction phase by responding to RFIs, issuing technical clarifications, and participating in field reviews.

• Engage in client meetings, design reviews, and constructability assessments.

• Work collaboratively with civil/structural, protection and control, and telecom teams on integrated designs.

• Oversee assigned project tasks while maintaining scope, schedule, and budget constraints.

• Mentor and guide junior EITs and designers.

• Maintain project documentation and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Incorporate relevant safety standards, codes, and best practices into design work.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for/working toward P.Eng. designation with EGBC.

• 2–5 years of pertinent experience in transmission & distribution or substation design.

• Proven experience in substation design, including layouts, grounding, and bus design; experience with BC Hydro or utility projects is a plus.

• Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards, such as Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, IEC, CSA, and OH&S.

• Proficient in engineering tools like AutoCAD, CYMCAP, CDEGS, WINIGS, ETAP, or similar software.

• Experience utilizing engineering tools in project environments.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to devise practical, technically sound solutions.

• Capability to work independently and juggle multiple tasks in a deadline-driven setting.

• Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient in interfacing effectively with internal teams, clients, and vendors.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully in a multidisciplinary team environment.
