Senior Execution Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Act as the technical authority for Whitefox on projects from FEL1 to commissioning and the O&M contract.

• Take ownership of engineering quality provided by the execution partner and maintain the technical relationship with that partner.

• Serve as the technical counterpart for the client regarding the Whitefox system.

• Lead the development of technical solutions, systems design, and deliverable reviews while ensuring the Project Manager is engaged.

• Chair technical reviews, establish the agenda for technical progress, and escalate any risks related to partner capability or resourcing.

• Review and approve PFDs with heat and material balances, P&IDs, equipment design, sizing and selection, 3D models and equipment layout, and control narratives against Whitefox design criteria.

• Conduct quality-control checks and document any deviations with technical justification.

• Ensure the technical accuracy of the partner's IFC package.

• Manage the sizing and selection of Whitefox equipment, basis of design, and CORE control narratives.

• Collaborate on commissioning and start-up efforts with Customer Support.

• Highlight technical impacts of changes on cost and schedule to Project Management.

• Drive installed systems to achieve promised benefits and performance post-commissioning and measure outcomes.

• Assist in troubleshooting live operations to meet contractual obligations.

• Prioritize health and safety in engineering design, including hazard identification, safe operating limits, HAZOP participation, and closure of design safety actions.

• Identify design modifications, enhancements, and optimizations based on lessons learned and field feedback.

• Offer on-the-job training and mentorship to Execution Engineers and POD colleagues.

• Contribute to the development of simulation templates, tools, design criteria, and training materials.

• Relay partner and field insights back to the Head of Execution Engineering.

• Uphold Whitefox's values, standards, and safety culture to customers and external stakeholders during site visits and support activities.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or process engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum of eight years of experience in process engineering within an industrial plant, including involvement from detailed design to field execution.

• Proven experience in producing or reviewing PFDs with heat and material balances, P&IDs, equipment design, sizing and selection, 3D models and equipment layout, control narratives, programming guidelines, and SOPs.

• Proficient in using a commercial process simulator.

• Experience with on-site commissioning and start-up, including troubleshooting in high-pressure situations.

• In-depth technical knowledge in post-commissioning and O&M.

• Familiar with process safety in design, encompassing hazard identification, HAZOP, safe operating limits, and the closure of design safety actions.

• Background in formal change control in operational plants or project settings.

• Experience in delivering engineering via third-party EPC or engineering contractors.

• Knowledge of separation or membrane processes, or a proven ability to quickly grasp unfamiliar unit operations.

• Competence in interpreting contractual performance guarantees and translating them into operational limits and testing conditions.

• Experience with ethanol, biofuels, distillation, or dehydration plants is preferred.

• Familiarity with evaporation processes is a plus.

• Exposure to plant control systems and programming guidelines or FAT processes is desirable.

• Experience in authoring design criteria documents or engineering standards for external application is a plus.

• Previous mentoring or line-management experience with junior engineers is beneficial.

• Ability to influence technical decisions without formal authority.

• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Excellent written communication abilities.

• Capability to function within a cross-functional POD.

• Good judgment and escalation skills.

• Competence in teaching and coaching others.

• Ability to maintain composure under commissioning conditions.

• Willingness to work standard US full-time hours (40 hrs/week).

• Flexibility to travel within the USA approximately 30% of the time.
