Engineer II, Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Develop, sustain, and enhance internal tools and third-party integrations that facilitate developer efficiency and operational safety.

• Implement new features for internal employee administration portals.

• Create custom tools or assess vendor solutions to assist feature teams in executing database migrations securely.

• Revise Rails and React code to incorporate database performance improvements as advised by the DBA.

• Safely test, validate, and deploy significant infrastructure and codebase modifications in collaboration with Platform and Feature Teams.

• Construct telemetry and cost dashboards to oversee infrastructure performance and cloud expenditure.

• Enhance application observability by utilizing metrics, structured logs, and distributed traces with OpenTelemetry.

• Develop and sustain custom OpenTelemetry wrapper libraries for new application tracing functionalities.

• Create observability dashboards and alerts to monitor, manage, and prevent excessive volumes of telemetry data.

• Oversee the daily health, security, and stability of customer-facing Rails applications.

• Mitigate technical debt by replacing outdated code.

• Resolve security vulnerabilities by updating Ruby gems and npm packages.

• Participate in on-call rotations and provide support during occasional scheduled weekend maintenance.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering.

• Extensive hands-on knowledge of Ruby on Rails in production settings.

• Demonstrated ability to perform complex zero-downtime upgrades, refactor legacy codebases, and safely implement major platform modifications without affecting customers.

• Strong expertise in configuring APM, distributed tracing, structured logging, and actionable alerting metrics using contemporary telemetry frameworks such as OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, and Prometheus.

• Solid technical background in background worker systems, including Delayed Job, Resque, and Sidekiq.

• Experience with relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL.

• Familiarity with Redis.

• Experience with modern frontend asset pipelines such as esbuild, Vite, and Webpack.

• Capability to work independently while collaborating across functions.

• Proficiency in documenting technical standards and bridging the gap between infrastructure specialists, DBAs, and feature engineering teams.

• Nice-to-have: Production experience with AWS services such as ECS/EKS, RDS, Redshift, S3, ElastiCache, and SQS/SNS.

• Nice-to-have: Production experience with CI/CD deployment pipelines, GitHub Actions, Dockerfiles, and infrastructure-as-code configurations.

• Nice-to-have: Production experience with non-relational or multi-model databases such as MongoDB and SurrealDB.

• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with containerized local AI tools like Ollama or similar open-source LLM runtimes.
