Engineer II, Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Develop, sustain, and enhance internal tools and third-party integrations that bolster developer efficiency and ensure operational safety.

• Introduce new features to internal employee administration portals.

• Create custom tools or assess vendor solutions to facilitate safer database migrations.

• Update Rails and React code to integrate DBA-recommended enhancements for database performance.

• Test, validate, and implement significant infrastructure and codebase modifications in collaboration with Platform and Feature Teams.

• Construct telemetry and cost dashboards to monitor infrastructure performance and cloud expenditures.

• Enhance application observability through metrics, structured logs, and distributed traces utilizing OpenTelemetry.

• Extend and uphold custom OpenTelemetry wrapper libraries for new application tracing functionalities.

• Develop observability dashboards and alerts to oversee, manage, and mitigate excessive telemetry data volumes.

• Manage the daily health, security, and stability of customer-facing Rails applications.

• Reduce technical debt by replacing outdated code.

• Address security issues by updating Ruby gems and npm packages.

• Engage in on-call rotations and support occasional scheduled weekend maintenance windows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience.

• Extensive hands-on proficiency with Ruby on Rails in production settings.

• Demonstrated success in executing intricate zero-downtime upgrades, refactoring legacy codebases, and safely implementing significant platform changes without impacting customers.

• In-depth experience in configuring APM, distributed tracing, structured logging, and actionable alerting metrics using contemporary telemetry frameworks like OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, and Prometheus.

• Strong technical background in background worker systems such as Delayed Job, Resque, and Sidekiq.

• Familiarity with relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL.

• Knowledge of Redis.

• Experience with modern frontend asset management pipelines such as esbuild, Vite, and Webpack.

• Capacity to work autonomously while fostering cross-functional collaboration.

• Ability to document technical standards and serve as a liaison between infrastructure specialists, DBAs, and feature engineering teams.

• Nice-to-have: production experience with AWS services including ECS/EKS, RDS, Redshift, S3, ElastiCache, and SQS/SNS.

• Nice-to-have: experience in enhancing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Dockerfiles.

• Nice-to-have: infrastructure-as-code experience related to the Rails application layer.

• Nice-to-have: production experience with non-relational or multi-model databases like MongoDB and SurrealDB.

• Nice-to-have: familiarity with containerized local AI tools such as Ollama or similar open-source LLM runtimes.
