Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and enhance the architecture of the core platform, which includes a React frontend, Node.js/Express APIs, Postgres, and AWS ECS infrastructure.

• Lead the migration from JavaScript to TypeScript by setting up patterns, tools, and standards.

• Design and improve the ETL pipeline along with a configuration-driven AI integration framework.

• Conduct technical design reviews and produce architecture decision records.

• Identify and address systemic technical debt.

• Define and implement the technical strategy for integrating ML/AI models into the core platform.

• Provide mentorship to engineers of all levels through pairing, code reviews, coaching, and professional development.

• Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, on-call runbooks, and incident response.

• Advise product, clinical, and business stakeholders.

• Assist in defining the engineering hiring criteria and participate in the interview process.

• Collaborate with engineering leadership and product teams to scope, sequence, and mitigate risks in technical initiatives.

• Oversee production support, establish runbooks, manage post-mortems, and drive resolutions for systemic incidents.

• Work across UI, API, database, and infrastructure layers.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering.

• A minimum of 3 years in a senior or staff-level position.

• Extensive expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript within a full-stack production environment.

• Strong proficiency in React, Node.js/Express, and Postgres.

• Experience in designing and managing distributed systems or data pipeline architectures on AWS.

• Familiarity with AWS ECS, RDS, and S3; Lambda experience is a plus.

• Proven track record of providing technical mentorship.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience working in or leading engineering teams at a growth-stage startup.

• Significant experience in architecting and deploying production-grade ML/AI systems, including integration of LLMs and managing the model lifecycle.

• Familiarity with ETL pipelines, AI/LLM integration patterns, or data-intensive systems is highly desirable.

• Experience in healthcare or regulated data environments, including HIPAA compliance or handling of PHI, is advantageous.

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message queues, or streaming pipelines is a plus.

• Previous experience as an engineering manager returning to an individual contributor role is a plus.

• Contributions to open source projects or engineering-related blog posts/conference presentations are a plus.
