This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain, +1 more country.
β’ Develop, execute, and sustain the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and pertinent regional or customer-specific standards.
β’ Conduct and facilitate hazard analyses, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System Safety Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Operational Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and fault tree analysis across weapon and aerospace subsystems.
β’ Own and oversee the hazard tracking process, managing risks through assessment, mitigation, verification, and resolution.
β’ Lead inquiries into safety incidents, near misses, test anomalies, and other safety-critical occurrences, establishing and following up on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
β’ Supervise adherence to explosives safety regulations encompassing siting, storage, handling, transportation, insensitive munitions, and quantity-distance criteria.
β’ Collaborate directly with range safety officers and internal teams to facilitate live-fire and flight test operations.
β’ Ensure that energetic materials, warheads, propulsion systems, and other safety-critical elements satisfy certification standards prior to integration and testing.
β’ Coordinate export control and end-use compliance documentation with legal and compliance teams in accordance with applicable arms export and dual-use regulations.
β’ Engage with certifying authorities, government representatives, and customer quality teams throughout qualification and acceptance processes.
β’ Maintain configuration control, documentation, and comprehensive traceability for safety-critical components and systems.
β’ Serve as the safety authority within Integrated Product Teams, providing safety insights during Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), and Test Readiness Reviews (TRR).
β’ Counsel engineering teams on safety-critical design margins, fail-safe and fail-operational architectures, arming and fuzing logic, and risk mitigation strategies.
β’ Educate and assist production, integration, and test personnel in the safe management of live and inert ordnance.
β’ Present senior leadership and relevant government safety boards with updates on safety status, outstanding hazards, mitigations, and overall risk posture.
β’ A Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical field.
β’ A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in defense systems safety, explosives safety engineering, system safety engineering, or a closely related area within a defense manufacturing setting.
β’ Comprehensive working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E or equivalent system safety frameworks.
β’ Practical understanding of insensitive munitions requirements, such as STANAG 4439-type frameworks and relevant range safety protocols.
β’ Hands-on experience performing hazard analyses, FMEA, fault tree analysis, and creating safety case documentation.
β’ Experience with safety-critical hardware and complex multidisciplinary engineering systems.
β’ Familiarity with export control regulations applicable to munitions, defense products, and dual-use technologies.
β’ Strong technical documentation skills with the capacity to translate complex safety assessments into clear actions and decisions.
β’ Professional working proficiency in English.
β’ A Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is advantageous.
β’ Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) or an equivalent system safety qualification is a plus.
β’ Direct experience with missile propulsion, energetic materials, warhead integration, arming and fuzing systems, or UAS flight test safety is highly regarded.
β’ Prior experience working with military airworthiness, range safety, ordnance certification, or other relevant government authorities is a significant advantage.
