Elementary School Special Education Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Deliver designated course material in an online format.

• Provide instruction, support, and guidance while overseeing the learning process.

• Address individual student needs as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

• Collaborate with students and parents to enhance student learning.

• Complete compliance documentation for students with special needs.

• Ensure that special education and related services are provided in accordance with IEP team decisions.

• Communicate with parents and related service personnel regarding appropriate therapies.

• Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and necessary state-specific special education documentation.

• Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP gatherings.

• Utilize resources such as assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible texts to provide necessary accommodations and modifications.

• Adjust Stride K12 lessons and assessments to meet IEP specifications.

• Ensure student inclusion and success within the general education setting.

• Collect data and student work samples to track progress toward IEP goals and objectives.

• Document parent communications and student interventions.

• Analyze student data to inform remediation and enrichment strategies.

• Provide both synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.

• Personalize learning and uphold high expectations for all students.

• Maintain the grade book and uphold student academic integrity.

• Make decisions regarding student placement and promotion.

• Notify administrators of concerns related to student performance and progress.

• Prepare students for high-stakes standardized assessments.

• Build positive relationships with families and communicate promptly with students and learning coaches/parents.

• Assist learning coaches and parents with curricular, instructional, and basic virtual-classroom troubleshooting issues.

• Collaborate with teachers and administrators to enhance student outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• North Carolina Teaching Certification is mandatory.

• Special Education endorsement is required.

• Bachelor's degree is necessary.

• Active state teaching license is required.

• Ability to pass a required background check.

• Residency in North Carolina or a bordering state within a 30-mile radius; out-of-state residents must possess North Carolina teaching certification.

• Ability to work independently, typically exceeding 40 hours per week.

• Capability to maintain a professional home office free from distractions.

• Availability to work during standard school hours, 9–5 or 8–4, as determined by the school.

• Willingness to travel up to 20% for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.

• Proficiency in interpreting and producing numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data.

• Ability to utilize student data to inform instructional decisions.

• Open to receiving regular coaching from administrators.

• Ability to adapt to changes to ensure optimal student outcomes.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Capacity to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Preferred: experience with the intended age group.

• Preferred: experience assisting adults and children in using technology.

• Preferred: experience teaching in an online format or in a traditional classroom setting.

• Preferred: experience with an online learning platform.
