This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.
• Design relay settings and protection strategies for distribution equipment, which includes transformers, bus systems, breaker control, distribution feeders, and other related apparatus.
• Evaluate protection and control design packages.
• Offer remote support to relay test engineers during the implementation of settings.
• Simulate electrical systems utilizing power simulation software such as CAPE, ASPEN, and CYME.
• Generate comprehensive and precise technical reports, communications, documentation, and calculations.
• Continuously enhance job-related engineering, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
• Guide and train junior engineers in power engineering theories and principles.
• Collaborate effectively with the team while meeting project timelines and quality standards.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, ideally in electrical or computer engineering.
• Over 5 years of experience in developing relay settings and protection strategies for transmission, sub-transmission, or distribution equipment.
• More than 5 years of experience in electrical engineering theories and principles.
• Professional Engineering license in at least one state is preferred.
• Familiarity with 69kV viper recloser applications.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 communication protocol.
• Proficient in Microsoft products, particularly Excel, Word, and/or Access.
• Capability to plan and manage tasks while clearly communicating any obstacles to completing assignments on budget and schedule.
• Experience utilizing software tools to model engineering challenges, automate systems, and conduct spreadsheet-based analyses and automation.
• Background in developing settings for Schweitzer relays.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.
