EHS Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.

📋 Description

• Ensure compliance with EHS policies, programs, and procedures at the site.

• Actively communicate and assist in the development of EHS programs, policies, and procedures.

• Conduct annual EHS audits and inspections while providing recommendations for continuous improvement.

• Guarantee that site management implements safe working procedures and practices for personnel.

• Oversee required compliance activities and enforce Invenergy EHS standards.

• Evaluate workplace and job-site risks, identifying potential hazards.

• Facilitate the implementation of Invenergy standards and procedures at various sites.

• Initiate and document investigations for incidents or near-misses in the EHS management system.

• Perform inspections and audits; track and document corrective actions taken.

• Complete and submit necessary EHS reports and maintain accurate recordkeeping.

• Provide training on EHS policies and programs.

• Ensure the effective use of the 3E SDS management system.

• Communicate updates on injury and illness awareness and follow up with mitigating measures alongside Site Managers.

• Establish rapport through regular site visits and regional conference calls.

• Manage documentation for EHS initiatives and additional safety programs as needed.

• Carry out other EHS-related responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Willingness and ability to travel regionally, sometimes with short notice, up to 50% of the time.

• High School Diploma or an equivalent qualification.

• At least 2 years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS).

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience and training that equips the individual with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role.

• Must be capable of working outdoors in adverse weather conditions and possibly during nighttime.

• Ability to lift and manipulate items weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

• Familiarity with OSHA workplace standards, industry best practices, and other guidelines applicable during PV/BESS operations (ANSI, NFPA 70e).

• Understanding of federal, state, and local environmental guidelines, standards, and best practices.

• Technical and practical EHS knowledge, including hoisting and rigging, fall protection, excavation and trenching, electrical safety, confined spaces, incident investigation, PPE, and EPPE.

• Knowledge of PV/BESS systems, encompassing DC systems and AC medium voltage systems.

• Proficiency in using testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection, I-V Curve Tracing, Meggers, and Ground Fault Detection.

• Familiarity with TMEIC/SMA/GE/Power Electronics inverters, single-axis/PVH/NEXTracker trackers, and Longi/Risen/Talesun modules.

• Understanding of utility-scale PV/BESS substation operations.

• Strong written, oral, and computer communication skills.

• Ability to generate accurate reports that include findings and recommendations.

• Capacity to perform time-sensitive tasks and manage a diverse range of responsibilities and oversight of multiple programs as required.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and other online reporting tools.

• Experience and understanding of the risks associated with maintaining equipment in the renewable energy generation sector.

• An associate degree is preferred.
