This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Compose weekly articles and updates for the magazine’s online platform.
• Draft brief articles and news updates for the magazine’s print version.
• Verify facts in articles for the magazine.
• Conduct both short- and long-term research or writing assignments as required.
• Attend weekly editorial meetings.
• Engage in writing workshops to enhance skills.
• Develop and grow social media outreach while implementing audience-building strategies.
• Carry out various editorial office tasks as necessary.
• Report directly to the Editor in Chief.
• Create content for a national magazine focused on environmental issues and news.
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Excellent writing, research, and editing abilities.
• A strong awareness of and interest in environmental and social justice topics.
• Capability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with the style and content of Sierra's print and online formats.
• Ability to take initiative on story concepts, assignments, and research.
• Experience with published work and/or prior publication involvement is advantageous.
• A commitment to continually enhancing understanding of oppressive systems.
• A constructive, growth-oriented mindset paired with genuine kindness.
• A background in environmental, conservation, climate, or social justice fields is preferred for top candidates.
• Published writing samples in environmental, conservation, climate, social justice, or related subjects are favored for strong candidates.
