This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +9 more states.
• Engage in daily communication and collaboration with journalists, news directors, and editors across Northeast regional hubs and Member stations.
• Identify, cultivate, and manage coverage that resonates on a national level.
• Edit, fact-check, and oversee multiplatform audio, digital, and broadcast content.
• Ensure that all work adheres to NPR’s standards for fairness, accuracy, and technical excellence.
• Coordinate rapid-response coverage for breaking news events from the Northeast.
• Direct updates and dispatches for national shows, digital platforms, and hourly newscasts.
• Liaise with Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Here & Now, podcasts, and the digital news desk regarding story length, angles, framing, and scheduling.
• Monitor regional news cycles and maintain proactive editorial calendars.
• Identify emerging cultural, political, and systemic trends in the Northeast.
• Conduct workshops, coaching sessions, and feedback discussions for Regional Hubs.
• Advocate for story ideas that reflect the demographic and geographical diversity of the Northeast.
• Manage freelancer agreements, story commissions, and reporter payment processing.
• Collaborate with regional editors and Network Desk leadership to enhance communication pipelines and newsroom workflows.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional journalism experience with a respected news organization.
• At least 3 years of editing experience for regional or national daily news coverage across audio and digital platforms.
• Proven ability to edit breaking news accurately under tight deadlines while maintaining journalistic integrity.
• Demonstrated experience in editing enterprise, investigative, or feature journalism from initial pitch to final audio/digital production.
• Strong journalistic judgment grounded in thorough fact-checking, balance, fairness, and editorial ethics.
• History of fostering collaborative relationships with decentralized reporters, freelancers, or station partners.
• Proficiency in editing for both audio broadcasting/podcasting and digital news writing.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Outstanding skills in news writing, line editing, and creating sound-rich audio structures.
• Capability to provide constructive, empathetic, and clear feedback to journalists with varying experience levels.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively and handle breaking news with composure and decisiveness.
• Familiarity with modern digital content management systems, audio editing tools, Slack, and AirTable.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Must be based at a designated remote location within ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, or DC.
• Bilingual or multilingual fluency relevant to regional coverage areas is preferred.
