This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
β’ Collaborate with fellow engineers to develop computer-based models.
β’ Conduct power system studies on utility distribution networks and industrial/commercial electrical power systems.
β’ Execute long- and short-term planning studies, including short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, DER impact, load impact, and associated analyses.
β’ Engage in meetings with both internal teams and external clients.
β’ Utilize steady-state load flow tools for system modeling.
β’ Carry out studies focused on system reliability and resilience planning.
β’ Evaluate distribution circuits concerning loading, voltage, reactive power, contingency, coordination, and reliability.
β’ Conduct studies for new load and generation interconnections.
β’ Suggest solutions and best practices for both standard and unconventional situations.
β’ Perform thorough engineering analyses adhering to established methodologies, criteria, and principles.
β’ Identify and implement new technologies and practices to lower operational costs and mitigate safety risks.
β’ Articulate complex technical matters clearly to decision-makers and project teams.
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
β’ Over 8 years of experience in electrical engineering system studies.
β’ More than 8 years of experience utilizing power flow analysis software such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or similar tools.
β’ At least 8 years of experience in planning, studies, and operations including hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, long-term capital investment studies, and model validation.
β’ Previous experience working with or within electric utilities.
β’ Proficient in forecasting load and generation growth.
β’ Knowledge of short circuit software such as ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP.
β’ Familiarity with distribution operation software like ADMS and DERMS.
β’ Experience with distribution design and/or drafting in AutoCAD.
β’ Proficiency in Python to automate functionalities in power system modeling software.
β’ Understanding of utility protection philosophies and short circuit studies.
β’ Background in designing renewable energy generation facilities, including solar, wind, or battery storage.
β’ Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical report writing.
β’ Familiarity with Independent System Operators (ISOs) such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, and SPP.
