Distribution Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Develop and prepare construction packages for distribution voltage projects, covering both overhead and underground installations.

• Design distribution lines ranging from 2.4kV to 34kV.

• Collaborate with Designers and Engineers to create new drawings, modify existing ones, and produce as-built documentation.

• Support proposals, project cost estimates, and execution timelines.

• Provide technical assistance to customers and contribute to regional business development efforts.

• Conduct quality reviews and comply with QA/QC procedures.

• Prepare calculations and assist in specifying equipment.

• Assess equipment loading, including transformers and pole structural loading, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective designs.

• Identify, inspect, and document field equipment and construction scenarios, including rights-of-way.

• Implement NESC, client, federal, state, and local standards within engineering designs.

• Analyze field data and imagery, updating relevant software for design execution.

• Utilize proprietary client software and equipment in the engineering design process and assist with attachment permitting.

• Complete tasks within project timelines and budgets, while keeping management informed of progress.

• Engage with clients to identify cost-effective solutions for projects.

• Provide documentation and support for accounting functions related to project tracking and budgeting.

• Transcribe notes and use measuring tools to organize field data.

• Work in various settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial areas, and under all weather conditions as necessary.

• Attend client site meetings and interact with the public, including landowners and operators.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a four-year ABET accredited institution, preferably in electrical engineering.

• Experience or foundational knowledge of electric utility concepts, including primary and secondary distribution systems and utility standards.

• Preferred completion of the Engineer in Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

• Possession of or willingness to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.

• Understanding of fundamental engineering theories and principles.

• Strong attention to detail along with skills in facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving.

• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and effectively communicate project statuses.

• Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office, distribution design software, GIS, and business enterprise software.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong reasoning ability and adeptness at addressing practical challenges.

• Capability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.

• Preferred working knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or construction of communication equipment.

• Beneficial experience with pole loading software such as Spida Calc, O-Calc, Pole Foreman, or Katapult, or other construction modeling tools like AutoCAD.

• Familiarity with utility or joint-use software like SPANS, NJUNS, or IkeGPS is advantageous.

• Knowledge of design and review practices for engineering drawings and deliverables.

• Awareness of safe work practices and PPE requirements.

• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with insurance are required.

• Ability to pass a fit-for-duty assessment.

• Flexibility to work from home or in an office environment as needed.

• Must pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test, including marijuana, in accordance with Federal regulations.

• Subject to random drug testing as a condition of ongoing employment.

• Willingness to travel overnight or for extended periods based on project assignments.

• Must have U.S.-based work authorization and location compliance.
