Distributed Systems Engineer 5 – Pricing, Catalog, and Offers

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Develop features that enhance user acquisition and retention.

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and data scientists to create commerce experiences that promote growth.

• Advance infrastructure to accommodate Netflix's growing commerce platform, including Ads, Games, and Live Streaming.

• Tackle challenges associated with distributed systems, such as race conditions, consistency guarantees, and throughput optimization.

• Engage in the on-call rotation for Tier 0 services.

• Ensure production reliability from start to finish.

• Oversee complex engineering initiatives from conception to completion.

• Actively enhance critical systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in developing resilient, high-scale, low-latency distributed systems in a production environment.

• A platform-oriented mindset with the ability to convert ambiguous business directives into clear, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions.

• Familiarity with race conditions, eventual consistency, and distributed transactions.

• Proven experience in leading complex engineering projects from inception to delivery.

• Skill in clearly communicating intricate technical trade-offs to non-engineering stakeholders.

• Proficient in Java, Kotlin, C#, Scala, ElasticSearch, Kafka, Hive, or AWS.

• Knowledge of Presto and/or Spark SQL, Apache Flink.

• Expertise in gRPC, GraphQL, or RESTful API design and implementation.

• Experience with SQL and NoSQL multi-region data stores such as Cassandra, Amazon Aurora, and Memcached.

• Comfortable with production on-call duties and incident response for Tier 0 services.

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field is a plus.
