This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Build, mentor, develop, and retain a high-achieving backend engineering team.
• Design and implement structured onboarding processes for new hires and recently converted contractors.
• Create tailored development plans, mentorship pairings, growth pathways, and succession depth.
• Establish and uphold best practices in code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation, and secure development.
• Foster learning through design review forums, pairing, tech talks, and shared standards.
• Convert senior architect technical guidance into daily practices for the team.
• Lead backend delivery initiatives, including QOE→VOE and CC→VOE migrations, core services, and API tasks.
• Oversee sprint planning, capacity management, dependency coordination, and the removal of blockers.
• Monitor delivery health and quality while enhancing predictability.
• Ensure production support, incident response, and blameless root-cause analysis are in place.
• Collaborate with senior architects, Product Management, Security, Quality Engineering, and business stakeholders.
• Report on delivery status, team well-being, risks, and capacity to the SVP.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
• Over 8 years of software engineering experience, including more than 4 years of direct leadership, coaching, and development of software engineers on mission-critical systems.
• A proven track record in building, developing, and retaining engineering teams.
• Proficient in structured onboarding, mentorship, personalized development planning, and performance management.
• Strong background in modern server-side web application engineering.
• Comfortable working in a PHP/Symfony, MySQL, React, and AWS environment, or able to quickly gain credibility in new technology stacks.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and secure development practices.
• Experience in disciplined Agile delivery across multiple concurrent workstreams.
• Experience managing customer-facing production systems, including incident response and root-cause analysis.
• Experience collaborating with Product Management, Architecture, and Security functions.
• Hands-on engineering experience sufficient to review code and designs and provide coaching on engineering skills.
• A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
