Director, Research

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Develop the vision, strategy, and quarterly roadmap for the Research function.

• Lead, mentor, and enhance the capabilities of the Research team.

• Set team objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational procedures.

• Oversee critical research projects from inception to completion, including question formulation, methodology development, data analysis, communication, and impact assessment.

• Utilize health economics, statistical, and data science techniques to address healthcare, medication access, and drug pricing challenges.

• Leverage internal and external data to create analyses, models, visualizations, and research deliverables.

• Define the scope, methods, and standards of research while maintaining a balance of rigor, efficiency, and relevance.

• Enhance existing datasets in collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners or vendors.

• Convert complex findings into articles, blog posts, regular reports, white papers, briefings, and other content formats.

• Collaborate with PR, Editorial, Marketing, Government Affairs, Strategy, Sales, B2B Marketing, Product, and additional teams.

• Provide guidance to senior leaders on research outcomes, implications, limitations, and suggested actions.

• Act as the external representative of GoodRx with journalists, academic partners, industry stakeholders, and other audiences.

• Oversee the Research budget, manage vendors, contracts, and renewals.

• Measure GoodRx’s impact and relevance through robust research and evaluation.

• Strengthen the team through coaching, recruitment, capability enhancement, and setting clear expectations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 12 years of experience in research, health economics, analytics, data science, or a closely related discipline, with a Master’s degree; 8+ years with a Ph.D., or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Advanced training in economics, health economics, statistics, public health, data science, or another quantitative discipline.

• Ph.D. is preferred.

• At least 4 years of experience in directly managing and developing personnel.

• Strong understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, prescription drug markets, medication access, or drug pricing.

• Proficiency in R, SQL, and/or Python.

• Ability to execute and assess analytical work for methodological integrity.

• Proven track record of transforming complex data into credible insights, research products, and actionable recommendations.

• Exceptional writing and presentation abilities.

• Strong discernment regarding research design, prioritization, data quality, and tradeoffs between speed and rigor.

• Experience in creating clear and persuasive data visualizations.

• Proficiency in Excel is required.

• Familiarity with Looker, Tableau, or similar tools is an advantage.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across functions.

• Comfort in representing research externally, or a willingness to develop this capability.

• A sense of curiosity, intellectual integrity, attention to detail, and a commitment to using evidence to enhance health and financial outcomes for individuals.

• Preference for candidates in LA; remote work options are also available.
