Director of Web Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead and manage the web development and UI design team, which includes Lead, Senior, and entry-level Web/UI Developers.

• Take ownership of tactical sprint-level delivery, conduct design reviews, maintain visual/UX standards, and ensure brand integrity across Group 1001 web properties.

• Generate production-quality designs and Webflow builds for critical-path web properties.

• Facilitate design reviews and prototype solutions using Figma and Webflow.

• Act as Product Owner for portfolio applications and web properties.

• Manage security posture, ensure accessibility compliance (minimum WCAG AA), and adhere to relevant regulatory compliance.

• Oversee application architectural health, business continuity, disaster recovery, backups, retention, version updates, libraries, and security patches.

• Guarantee team access to necessary development, design, source control, CI/CD, cloud, monitoring, ticketing, and production-support tools.

• Collaborate with IT, Security, and Identity teams on access provisioning, review processes, and revocation procedures.

• Develop quarterly and sprint-level design and build plans while aligning capacity with marketing initiatives.

• Lead or engage in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.

• Evaluate user stories for design appropriateness, acceptance criteria, content readiness, and dependencies.

• Assign designers to projects based on their skills, brand fluency, and current workload.

• Manage schedules, conduct 1:1 meetings, set goals, perform performance reviews, recommend compensation, and take corrective actions as needed.

• Create development plans and provide mentorship to senior and lead designers.

• Oversee enterprise design-system governance, contribution models, and reuse strategies.

• Supervise the SEO and Generative Engine Optimization strategy and its monitoring.

• Manage web analytics and BI feed strategies.

• Enhance design throughput, handoff quality, and Webflow build speed.

• Lead the assessment, re-platforming, and brand integration of acquired web properties.

• Establish and enforce standards for design, accessibility, branding, and Webflow builds.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional web design and front-end development experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

• Proven experience in the financial services and/or insurance industries.

• Ability to meet or surpass the technical bar set for Lead Web/UI Developers.

• Expert-level proficiency in Figma (HARD REQUIREMENT).

• Expert-level capability in Webflow for constructing and governing client-maintainable sites (HARD REQUIREMENT).

• Extensive experience in building, evolving, governing, and scaling design systems across various product lines.

• Strong foundation in typography, layout, interaction, and visual design principles.

• Experience in creating developer-ready Figma files for engineering handoffs.

• Experience in defining and executing SEO and GEO strategies along with ongoing monitoring.

• Familiarity with instrumenting web properties to provide data for enterprise BI platforms.

• Skills in content creation, including copywriting, visual assets, and campaign materials.

• Fluency in requirements gathering with Marketing, Sales, and Communications stakeholders.

• Experience in Agile environments utilizing Jira and User Stories.

• Confident and proficient use of AI tools for design and content tasks.

• Experience in technical/design management, leading a team of 3 or more designers.

• Background in software engineering or design concepts and theory through formal education, professional training, or equivalent industry experience.

• Preferred: experience in integrating web properties of acquired companies during M&A activities.

• Preferred: domain experience in insurance, life/annuity, or financial services marketing, especially in intermediary-distribution channels.

• Preferred: familiarity with Contentful, headless CMS architectures, or similar technologies.

• Proficient in HTML/CSS/JS to extend Webflow capabilities through custom coding.

• Strong skills in conflict management, collaboration, coaching, stakeholder empathy, and design quality judgment.
