This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the main editor for all content related to External Affairs encompassing social media, print, digital platforms, websites, emails, fundraising, policy, and executive communications.
• Craft and refine brand messaging, develop message frameworks, talking points, and thought-leadership materials.
• Collaborate with subject-matter experts, leaders, and Affiliates to enhance messaging and ensure a cohesive voice.
• Oversee the brand style guide, templates, and editorial standards.
• Mentor writers and contributors while enhancing editorial processes, review protocols, and quality assurance.
• Provide counsel on crisis and high-risk communications alongside the Chief External Affairs Officer.
• Manage the daily interactions with the public relations firm and lead the coordinated earned media approach.
• Generate press releases, op-eds, story concepts, and media pitches.
• Collaborate with Affiliates, clinicians, and leaders to promote state and local media coverage.
• Prepare spokespeople for interviews and direct rapid-response communications.
• Establish objectives for and assess earned media effectiveness.
• Collaborate on social media strategies and review content as well as major campaigns.
• Integrate earned, paid, social, and owned content.
• Utilize performance metrics and platform insights to enhance strategy.
• Provide Affiliates with versatile content and resources suitable for local markets.
• Function as a senior communications advisor throughout the organization and Affiliate network.
• Work in partnership with marketing, branding, and creative teams on editorial and reputation strategies.
• Assist in prioritizing the External Affairs team's projects and manage communications vendors.
• Report directly to the Chief External Affairs Officer.
• Dedication to promoting equity in opportunities and outcomes for children, acknowledging factors such as race, ethnicity, language, and socio-economic status.
• 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in public relations or communications, with a focus on leading substantial media and editorial initiatives.
• Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven sectors is highly preferred.
• Background in a national organization is advantageous.
• Knowledge in early childhood, health, or education is a plus.
• Outstanding writing and editing capabilities, accompanied by a portfolio showcasing high-level messaging for diverse audiences.
• Extensive experience in engaging reporters and managing relationships with PR firms or agencies.
• Strong news judgment and editorial oversight capabilities.
• Proficient in converting complex research, policy, or programmatic data into comprehensible messaging.
• Excellent project leadership skills and adept at managing multiple high-priority projects and deadlines.
• Collaborative approach when working with senior leaders, Affiliates, clinicians, and external partners.
• Strong storytelling abilities and entrepreneurial mindset.
