Director of Enterprise AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and execute the AI strategy and framework to position Boomi as an AI-first organization.

• Spearhead the integration of AI within internal business processes.

• Conduct quarterly planning sessions with the VP of AI and various business units.

• Convert the AI and agent roadmap into investments for agents, data, and platforms.

• Propel AI solutions that enhance both front- and back-office functions, decision-making, and customer interactions.

• Establish the architecture and roadmap for autonomous and multi-agent systems.

• Define parameters for agent guardrails, access controls, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, logging, and escalation procedures.

• Set standards for the evaluation and observability of agents.

• Drive the development of interoperability standards and take ownership of the agent operating model.

• Manage the model strategy across both frontier and open-weight models.

• Oversee an enterprise AI gateway for model access, routing, fallback, rate limiting, cost tracking, and policy enforcement.

• Determine the appropriate instances for self-hosting open-weight models as opposed to utilizing hosted APIs.

• Design the architecture for the knowledge graph, semantic layer, vector retrieval, and trust layer.

• Govern data trust-layer policies, which include classification, masking, lineage, and enforcement.

• Lead the development of batch and real-time pipelines for AI-ready data.

• Establish standards for data modeling and create versioned feature and context stores.

• Set objectives for retrieval, freshness, and trust-layer SLOs while monitoring data quality and drift.

• Optimize the balance between storage, query, compute performance, and associated costs.

• Mentor and develop AI and data engineering professionals in a player-coach role.

• Facilitate asynchronous, multi-geo collaboration between teams in the US and India.

• Act as Customer Zero for Boomi’s low-code generative AI orchestration platform.

• Collaborate with Product & Engineering teams and external communities to test concepts and further the AI strategy.

• Report directly to the Vice President of Enterprise AI.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in data engineering, analytics, and AI systems.

• At least 3 years managing senior individual-contributor engineers.

• Proven history of leading enterprise-scale AI initiatives with quantifiable results.

• Hands-on experience with Anthropic Claude, including Claude API, Claude Agent SDK, tool usage, and prompt caching, along with exposure to at least one other frontier model family.

• Experience in deploying, fine-tuning, or serving open-weight models in a production environment.

• Knowledge of evaluating open-weight and hosted models based on quality and overall cost.

• Experience in designing or managing an AI gateway or LLM proxy layer for multi-model routing, observability, and governance.

• Personally designed at least one production knowledge graph, semantic layer, or enterprise-scale RAG retrieval system.

• Experience in setting up architecture for agentic or multi-agent AI systems, including guardrails, evaluation, and observability.

• Developed a data trust or governance layer, which includes classification, masking, lineage, and policy enforcement.

• Hands-on experience with AWS technologies such as IAM, S3, Glue/EMR, Lambda, Bedrock or similar, OpenSearch, and KMS.

• Experience leading large-scale transformations involving strategic planning, program execution, technical delivery, communications, and change management.

• Documented success in building and mentoring AI and software engineering teams, including a distributed team between the US and India.

• Excellent executive communication capabilities.

• BS or advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.

• Familiarity with various AI, data, cloud, infrastructure, security, monitoring, and programming technologies listed.
