Director of Engineering, Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the engineering strategy and technical vision for Turnkey's Platform Engineering organization, covering infrastructure, reliability and performance, releases, and internal tooling.

• Build, lead, and nurture a high-performing engineering organization, which includes hiring and developing engineering managers and senior individual contributors.

• Collaborate closely with Product Engineering and company leadership to ensure that platform investments meet both customer and business requirements.

• Identify and assess emerging technologies and trends in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure, guiding their integration into the platform.

• Contribute to strategic planning and technical decision-making at the company level as a member of the engineering leadership team.

• Define and refine the organizational structure, leveling, and career development paths for the Platform Engineering team as it grows.

• Drive the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of engineering talent with a focus on infrastructure and security.

• Establish and maintain engineering rituals, including on-call duties, incident reviews, and capacity planning.

• Mentor and develop managers and senior engineers, creating a sustainable leadership pipeline.

• Provide strategic technical direction across foundational systems to ensure long-term scalability, security, and reliability.

• Oversee the design and implementation of cloud and network infrastructure, as well as company-wide security architecture and controls, and operational tooling and practices.

• Ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of infrastructure, addressing challenges related to distributed systems and adversarial threat models.

• Define and implement processes for security reviews, capacity planning, testing, and incident response.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience managing engineering managers and/or leading a multi-team engineering organization (not just individual teams).

• In-depth understanding of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and security architecture, with the ability to lead comprehensive technical discussions and make final decisions on trade-offs.

• Proven track record of operating and scaling infrastructure that requires high availability, performance, and a robust security posture.

• High standards for software quality and engineering processes, even in a fast-paced environment.

• Previous experience in dynamic crypto/web3 and/or FinTech companies, particularly with exposure to security-critical infrastructure.

• Experience in scaling an infrastructure organization through a substantial growth phase (e.g., Series B to C, or equivalent).

• Actively monitoring developments in the crypto ecosystem and having informed opinions on its future direction.
