This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead, mentor, and cultivate a multidisciplinary engineering team encompassing hardware, embedded/edge software, and software engineering.
• Foster a high-performing engineering culture focused on accountability, technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Set clear expectations, objectives, career development pathways, and performance benchmarks.
• Attract and retain engineering talent as the organization expands.
• Develop engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
• Define and refine the technical strategy and architecture across hardware, edge, and cloud systems.
• Guide architectural choices and technical trade-offs throughout the product lifecycle.
• Establish engineering standards and practices while balancing delivery, reliability, scalability, maintainability, and cost.
• Identify technical risks and dependencies, driving them to resolution.
• Collaborate with Product and Deployment teams to convert requirements into engineering plans.
• Oversee engineering execution in alignment with product and technology roadmaps.
• Create planning and development processes that provide insights into progress, risks, dependencies, and resources.
• Eliminate organizational and technical obstacles.
• Coordinate hardware and software development across design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance phases.
• Integrate feedback from field deployments into product and engineering decision-making.
• Ensure the reliability, availability, performance, observability, security, and operational resilience of the Integrated Sensor platform.
• Establish testing and validation methodologies across hardware, embedded software, and cloud systems.
• Collaborate with Deployment and Operations on installation, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
• Diagnose and resolve intricate production and field challenges.
• Scale systems from current deployments to a nationwide sensing network.
• Work alongside Product, Deployment, Data Science, Data Engineering, and company leadership on strategy, roadmaps, trade-offs, risks, and priorities.
• Over 10 years of engineering experience, including substantial leadership roles within engineering teams and organizations.
• More than 5 years of experience in people management, including overseeing senior engineers and/or engineering managers.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across two or more domains: hardware, embedded systems, edge computing, backend software, cloud infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Background in building and operating products that integrate physical hardware with software systems.
• Demonstrated success in scaling engineering teams, processes, and technical infrastructure as a company or product evolves.
• Strong technical knowledge of modern software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and production systems.
• Experience in establishing engineering standards, development processes, testing methodologies, and operational excellence.
• Proven ability to make informed technical and organizational decisions in ambiguous and fast-paced environments.
• Strong track record in recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering talent.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• High effectiveness in communication while working within a remote and distributed team.
• Proficiency in English is mandatory.
