Director, Engineering – Business Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the systems and engineering organization in transitioning from a traditional IT and administration-focused structure to one centered on platform and data engineering.

• Take ownership of the technical architecture, design, and delivery roadmap for business systems, enterprise data, and integrations.

• Oversee the development and growth of systems and engineering managers and direct reports through technical mentorship and career development.

• Establish standards, style guides, workflows, ceremonies, and engineering/system practices within a coherent operating model that leverages AI and agentic processes.

• Collaborate with Product, Success, and Program Management to prioritize and execute the BADaS roadmap.

• Convert business, process, and product requirements into technical scope, staffing, and sequencing decisions.

• Act as the internal technical counterpart to vendors and partners by evaluating architecture proposals, approving technical designs, and overseeing technical builds.

• Manage the security, RBAC, and data governance posture of BADaS platforms, especially regarding audit and access-control risks.

• Collaborate with Chainalysis engineering leaders on best practices and the reuse of existing platforms, components, solutions, and codebases.

• Contribute to the advancement of AI-driven intelligence at Chainalysis, a blockchain data platform that links digital asset movement to real-world services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be located in CST or EST.

• 8+ years of experience in software, platform, or data engineering.

• 4+ years of experience managing engineers and engineering managers.

• Demonstrated organizational leadership experience, including hiring, career development, and succession planning.

• Comfortable operating in an ambiguous and transformative environment.

• Proven experience in owning team-based technical architecture and engineering practices, including repository management, CI/CD, code review standards, and testing/regression discipline.

• Experience managing a diverse technical organization comprising engineers, data engineers, and platform/systems administrators.

• Data-first orientation with a focus on data architecture and flow.

• Proficiency in modern event-based, service-oriented architectures using server-side JavaScript/TypeScript/Node.js in a primarily serverless AWS environment.

• Extensive experience with REST/GraphQL API architectures and authorization strategies, including OAuth and JWT.

• Familiarity with SQL, Python, dbt/data modeling, pipeline orchestration, batch versus near-real-time ETLs and reverse ETLs, and medallion architectures.

• Experience with infrastructure as code platforms such as Terraform for DevOps and cloud infrastructure.

• Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States without restrictions.

• Ability to work without current or future sponsorship to maintain US work authorization.
