Director, Engineering – Business Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead the systems and engineering division in transitioning from a traditional IT and administration-focused organization to one that emphasizes platform and data engineering.

• Take ownership of the technical architecture, design, and delivery roadmap for business systems, enterprise data, and integrations.

• Manage and develop systems and engineering-track managers and direct reports through technical guidance and career development.

• Establish and formalize standards, style guides, workflows, ceremonies, and engineering and systems practices into a unified operating model utilizing AI and agentic processes.

• Collaborate with Product, Success, and Program Management to prioritize and implement the BADaS roadmap.

• Convert business, process, and product requirements into technical scope, staffing, and sequencing decisions.

• Serve as the internal technical liaison to vendors and partners, evaluating architecture proposals, approving technical designs, and overseeing technical builds.

• Manage the security, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and data governance posture of BADaS platforms, with a particular focus on audit and access-control risk.

• Collaborate with engineering leaders across Chainalysis to promote best practices and encourage the reuse of existing platforms, components, solutions, and codebases.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software, platform, or data engineering, including at least 4 years in a managerial role overseeing engineers and engineering managers.

• Proven organizational leadership skills, encompassing hiring, career development, and building succession depth within a multi-manager organization.

• Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment undergoing transformation.

• Demonstrated ownership of team-based technical architecture and engineering methodologies, including repository management, CI/CD, code review standards, and test/regression practices.

• Experience managing a diverse technical team comprising engineers, data engineers, and platform/systems administrators.

• Data-first mindset with a strong focus on data architecture and flow.

• Proficient in modern, event-driven, service-oriented architectures using server-side JavaScript/TypeScript/Node.js primarily in a serverless AWS environment.

• Extensive experience with REST/GraphQL API architectures and authorization strategies, including OAuth and JWT.

• Knowledgeable in SQL, Python, dbt/data modeling, pipeline orchestration, batch versus near-real-time ETLs, reverse ETLs, and medallion architectures.

• Familiar with infrastructure-as-code platforms such as Terraform for DevOps and cloud infrastructure.
